When the sun rises, it does not shine for everyone. At this year\u2019s Repsol Guide awards, 41 restaurants received distinctions. The highest accolade \u2013 three suns \u2013 went to the Algarve, specifically to Vila Joya in Albufeira and Vista in Portim\u00e3o. But Cascais has plenty to celebrate. Chief among the reasons is the high-end Japanese restaurant Kappo, which has been awarded one sun \u2013 a distinction given to restaurants that \u201cmore than justify a detour during a journey\u201d.<\/p>\n
2026 is already proving to be a standout year for chef Tiago Pen\u00e3o, who earned his first Michelin star in March<\/a>. At the Repsol gala in \u00c9vora this Monday (13 April), the chef took to the stage twice at the Teatro Garcia de Resende. Among the 79 newly listed Repsol Guide Restaurants \u2013 a category that replaces the former \u201cRecommended\u201d distinction \u2013 is also his Izakaya.<\/p>\n The Chinese restaurant Estoril Mandarim, located inside Casino Estoril, has also joined the list.<\/p>\n In the 2025 edition, the guide had already highlighted several Cascais restaurants, awarding one sun to Fortaleza do Guincho, led by Gil Fernandes, and Mar\u00e9, by Jos\u00e9 Avillez (headed by Filipe Pina), while Sult, Monte Mar, Porto de Santa Maria and Furnas do Guincho \u2013 the latter celebrating its 45th anniversary<\/a> \u2013 appeared among the recommended venues.<\/p>\n Across the two editions so far, the Portuguese guide now features 298 restaurants, 102 of which hold suns.<\/p>\n
