Not only are we not stopping the avalanche, but we are sending the message that those who come soon will be able to become Spanish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/isabel-diaz-ayuso-profile-spain-madrid-pop-polarizer-unlikely-rise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Isabel D\u00edaz Ayuso<\/a>, the party\u2019s high-profile president of the Madrid region, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IdiazAyuso\/status\/2082928514588684584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">accused<\/a> S\u00e1nchez of \u201callowing the invasion of Spain via Ceuta to try to cover up all of his trials,\u201d referring to the tangle of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/scandal-after-scandal-lands-spain-pedro-sanchez-on-the-ropes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">corruption cases<\/a> ensnaring the Socialist party.<\/p>\n<p>Spain\u2019s government hits back<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the foreign ministry retorted that the crisis in Ceuta had nothing to do with the government\u2019s migration policies and pointed out that none of the people who have illegally entered Ceuta will be eligible to benefit from its legal status scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis process is based on very specific conditions, such as proof of residency in Spain before January 1, 2026, and having resided in Spain for five consecutive months at the time of application,\u201d said the spokesperson. Moreover, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/spain-greenlights-mass-regularization-of-more-than-500000-undocumented-migrants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">deadline<\/a> for filing applications for the scheme, which was launched in April, was in June.<\/p>\n<p>The S\u00e1nchez government has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/spain-greenlights-mass-regularization-of-more-than-500000-undocumented-migrants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">defended<\/a> the legalization scheme as a necessary measure to ensure the country\u2019s long-term economic growth amid declining birth rates, and the move was backed by unlikely allies like Spain\u2019s conservative employers\u2019 association and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/pope-leo-xiv-defends-integration-of-migrants-rebuking-spain-right-wing-parties\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Catholic Church<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the scheme is contentious domestically, with some polls showing over half of Spaniards believe the country already hosts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasexta.com\/noticias\/nacional\/casi-60-poblacion-espanola-esta-proceso-regularizacion-migrantes_202607136a54cb82c48a78681b867997.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">too many foreigners<\/a>.
