{"id":66826,"date":"2026-08-06T18:17:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T18:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/66826\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T18:17:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T18:17:11","slug":"barcelona-keeping-close-tabs-on-former-la-masia-winger-as-ajax-register-interest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/66826\/","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona keeping close tabs on former La Masia winger as Ajax register interest\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The appointment of Michel as head coach has seen Ajax focus more towards Barcelona or Catalonia-based players this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The club earlier signed Marc-Andre ter Stegen on loan, have an agreement to sign Jofre Torrents and are now eyeing one more former Barcelona player in the form of Jan Virgili.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virgili currently plies his trade for Mallorca and was even linked with a potential return to Barcelona earlier in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Ajax want to sign Virgili<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sport.es\/es\/noticias\/barca\/ajax-irrumpe-jan-virgili-barca-133128342\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SPORT<\/a>, Ajax have identified Virgili as one of the alternatives to strengthen their left wing, particularly if they end up selling Mika Godts to PSG in a deal that could reach \u20ac60 million.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/rcd-mallorca-v-real-oviedo-laliga-ea-sports-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jan Virgili, Mallorca player\" class=\"wp-image-204401\"  \/>Virgili\u2019s stock is on the rise. (Photo by Rafa Babot\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ajax sporting director Jordi Cruyff knows the winger\u2019s profile and views him as an intriguing option to bolster the flank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virgili\u2019s stock is also on the rise. The La Masia product was one of the breakout stars of last season with Mallorca, and on Wednesday he starred in a 3-0 pre-season win over PSG, assisting one goal and scoring another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, he would not be Ajax\u2019s only target, with Noa Lang their priority and Roony Bardghji, another Barcelona player, <a href=\"https:\/\/barcauniversal.com\/ajax-could-enter-race-for-barcelona-winger-to-replace-psg-bound-attacker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">also under consideration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Why it matters to Barcelona<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virgili\u2019s situation is particularly significant for Barcelona given the stake they retain in him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Catalans kept 40% of his economic rights when they sold him to Mallorca last summer for \u20ac3.5 million, and crucially, they also hold a preferential option to re-sign him. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/rcd-mallorca-v-real-sociedad-laliga-ea-sports-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jan Virgili of RCD Mallorca\" class=\"wp-image-199905\"  \/>Virgili\u2019s move to Ajax could be beneficial for Barcelona.
