One such economic boost could come in the form of Jan Virgili\u2019s sale. The former player, who was linked with a return to Camp Nou earlier in the summer, is set to leave Mallorca.<\/p>\n

It was reported yesterday that Jan Virgili could be set for a move away from RCD Mallorca this summer, with the player already on the radar of Ajax Amsterdam<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, fate has other plans with Virgili now on the verge of a move to Belgium. He has been courted by Club Brugge and the Belgian giants are even prepared to meet the player\u2019s \u20ac12 million release clause at Mallorca, reports Diario SPORT<\/a>.<\/p>\n The winger from Vilassar is understood to have said goodbye to his Mallorca teammates on Friday afternoon, with negotiations having been conducted quietly. <\/p>\n He is expected to travel to Belgium as soon as possible to complete a medical and sign his contract, with only the final contractual details left to iron out.<\/p>\n Mallorca had adopted a firm stance throughout, refusing to negotiate for anything less than the full \u20ac12 million clause. <\/p>\n Having already raised funds through other sales this summer, the club felt no pressure to accept a lower figure, and Brugge ultimately agreed to pay the amount in full.<\/p>\n Why Barcelona benefit<\/p>\n The move is significant for Barcelona because of the stake they retained when selling Virgili to Mallorca last summer.<\/p>\n The Catalans held onto 40% of the player\u2019s economic rights, meaning they are in line to pocket around \u20ac5 million from the transfer to Brugge. <\/p>\n For a club constantly looking to generate revenue and stay within the 1:1 rule, it represents a welcome and timely windfall.<\/p>\n Interestingly, Barcelona could have pursued a different path altogether. Virgili\u2019s entourage held a meeting with the club\u2019s board earlier in the summer, opening the possibility of triggering a \u20ac7 million buy-back clause before loaning him out to retain control. <\/p>\n However, doubts within the technical secretariat lingered for weeks, and Barcelona ultimately opted against executing that option.
