Loan deal for Araujo<\/p>\n

Fabrizio Romano said Liverpool reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona to sign Ara\u00fajo on loan, and the agreement was approved by Barcelona sporting director Deco, while an option to buy is included.<\/p>\n

The Liverpool Offside said the deal is for Ara\u00fajo, a 27-year-old Uruguayan centre half, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.<\/p>\n

Sky Sports reported the deal is a straight loan for the 27-year-old, who signed a new contract until 2031 last year, and said Liverpool were adding depth at centre-back after losing Ibrahima Konat\u00e9 to Real Madrid and facing fitness concerns over Jeremy Jacquet.<\/p>\n

ESPN said Liverpool are set to sign Ara\u00fajo on a season-long loan deal that includes an option for a permanent transfer, with sources telling ESPN the Reds\u2019 new head coach Andoni Iraola had been in the market for a defender as Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and J\u00e9r\u00e9my Jacquet worked back from injury.<\/p>\n

Sky Sports said Liverpool\u2019s defensive options were stretched after Ibrahima Konat\u00e9\u2019s departure to Real Madrid and fitness concerns over 21-year-old Jeremy Jacquet, while Joe Gomez suffered a muscle injury in Liverpool\u2019s opening pre-season game and Giovanni Leoni was still recovering from an ACL injury.<\/p>\n

The New York Times said Giovanni Leoni remained sidelined from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in September last year and Joe Gomez was set to miss the start of the Premier League season due to a muscular injury sustained in pre-season.<\/p>\n

The New York Times also said Iraola admitted the squad was \u201cthin\u201d defensively and that Luke Chambers deputised in the middle during the pre-season tour of America.<\/p>\n

ESPN said Ara\u00fajo accepted the Premier League club\u2019s proposal after realizing that, under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, he would not get the playing time he desired.<\/p>\n

Mundo Deportivo reported that after a conversation with Hansi Flick, Ara\u00fajo decided to seek more minutes away from the Camp Nou because the idea for the campaign was that he would keep the same role with little protagonism and more of a secondary part.<\/p>\n

What happens next<\/p>\n

SPORT said the Liverpool deal includes an option de compra to sign Ara\u00fajo permanently and reported that the Liverpool club would assume the 100% of the player\u2019s salary.<\/p>\n
