{"id":688,"date":"2026-04-11T00:27:36","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T00:27:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/688\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T00:27:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T00:27:36","slug":"winning-together-valencia-high-school-varsity-dance-team-claims-two-grand-champion-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/688\/","title":{"rendered":"Winning together: Valencia High School varsity dance team claims two grand champion titles\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Valencia High School\u2019s varsity dance team has done it again by not only claiming the title of grand champions at West Coast Elite Dance Nationals and USA Dance Nationals, respectively, but also winning 11 national titles \u2014 one more than last year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Valencia coach Andrew Allan, who has been a coach at the school for seven years, discussed the growth that has influenced the team\u2019s mindset, and vice versa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this year, after our success last year, I kept myself grounded and was not letting myself do anything different just because we won in the sense that it got us to where we were last season. The girls and I really focused on being proud of what we presented on the floor, and we had a good time in the process, and I think that carried us to be successful without any added, \u2018We have to win or we can\u2019t lose,\u2019\u201d Allan said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even with a \u201csuperstar team,\u201d Allan and the 18 Valencia students were excited to \u201clet go and have fun\u201d \u2014 in part inspired by\u00a02026\u00a0Winter Olympic figure skating champion Alysa Liu.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/041026_DANCERWEB2-600x800.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1211257\"  \/>Valencia varsity dance celebrates wins at USA Dance Nationals. Courtesy of Andrew Allan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m\u00a0a huge fan of Miss Alysa Liu and the Winter Olympics, and during the whole Olympics was our competition season, so they both consumed my life. There were\u00a0definitely moments\u00a0that I started to second guess myself as a coach, and doubt would always creep in, but watching the Olympics and letting go has its benefits,\u201d Allan said. \u201cAny time that I felt like my feet\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0on the ground, I would just say, \u2018Remember that\u00a0you\u2019reproud of your team.\u00a0You\u2019re\u00a0proud of yourself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Allan, the team, which\u00a0included seven seniors, enjoyed the dances, which was a driving factor in winning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom my seniors\u2019\u00a0freshman\u00a0year to now, the program has grown exponentially \u2014 competition wise, atmosphere wise, and I\u00a0have to\u00a0give credit to those girls for growing the program with me.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0cool\u00a0to look back at their\u00a0freshman\u00a0year, and we were grateful to win one national title, and now\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0at a place where\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0winning a lot more than that,\u201d Allan said. \u201cAt the end of the day, we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0just do it to win trophies and to be successful. We all show up every morning at 7 a.m. because we love to dance and we love each other.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Having a successful regional competition season, the team had an\u00a0arguably better\u00a0one at the national level.
