The regional ministry of  &#8230; health reported three new positive cases on Tuesday, all of them in the province of Seville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">The new cases are in Seville city, La Puebla del R\u00edo and Los Palacios y Villafranca.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">Of the 29 cases confirmed to date, 20 patients have presented mild symptoms and nine have developed a neuroinvasive form of the disease. One of the 29 people has died and one has fully recovered. The other 27 are currently showing a favourable clinical course.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"v-a-lnk\" href=\"http:\/\/www.surinenglish.com\/malaga\/malaga-city\/surveillance-west-nile-20260807140908-nt.html#vtm_modulosEngag=noticiasrelacionadas-cmp-uno:surinenglish:noticia:1\" data-voc-vtm-id=\"in-text-traffic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/mosquito-virus-nilo-kJRF-U301193598214bCH-366x256@Diario Sur.jpg\" class=\"v-a-img\" width=\"258\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Malaga city steps up West Nile virus surveillance after mosquito sample tests positive\"\/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">All cases detected in Andaluc\u00eda so far this year are in Seville. Villamanrique de la Condesa remains the municipality with the highest number of confirmed cases, with six, followed by La Puebla del R\u00edo, with five, Coria del R\u00edo and Dos Hermanas, with four cases each, and Palomares del R\u00edo, with three.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">In addition, there are two cases in Aznalc\u00e1zar and another two in Seville city, while Almensilla, Bollullos de la Mitaci\u00f3n and Los Palacios y Villafranca have one case each.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">The regional government has also reported that 358 patients have undergone lab tests and 110 patients with viral meningitis have undergone screening for arboviral infections. As part of the screening of blood donors, 3,039 tests were carried out between 1 June and 9 August.<\/p>\n<p>\n20 municipalities on alert\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">There are currently 20 municipalities in Andaluc\u00eda on alert. The latest update includes Los Palacios and Villafranca, while the alert that had been in place in Constantina has now been lifted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">The municipalities are: Salobre\u00f1a in Granada; Lopera in Ja\u00e9n; Fuengirola, Mijas (Las Lagunas district) and Malaga city (Campanillas district) in Malaga; and Almensilla, Aznalc\u00e1zar, Benacaz\u00f3n, Bollullos de la Mitaci\u00f3n, Castilblanco de los Arroyos, Coria del R\u00edo, Dos Hermanas, Gelves, La Puebla del R\u00edo, Los Palacios y Villafranca, Mairena del Aljarafe, Palomares del R\u00edo, San Juan de Aznalfarache, the city of Seville and Villamanrique de la Condesa in Seville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">Declaring an alert area involves stepping up entomological, animal and human surveillance, as well as launching awareness campaigns and strengthening communication with the public to encourage protective measures. Local councils must also step up the control and treatment of mosquitoes that transmit the virus.<\/p>\n<p>\nAvoiding insect bites\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">The regional ministry highlights the need to adopt protective and preventative measures, particularly among vulnerable people and in those municipalities where a high presence of the mosquito vector has been detected in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"v-d-p\" style=\"\">The recommendations include using approved insect repellents, covering as much of the body as possible with light-coloured clothing and avoiding perfumes and other strong scents that may attract mosquitoes.
