{"id":69789,"date":"2026-08-12T19:56:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T19:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/69789\/"},"modified":"2026-08-12T19:56:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T19:56:08","slug":"british-serial-sex-attacker-jailed-for-life-after-escalating-crime-spree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/69789\/","title":{"rendered":"British serial sex attacker jailed for life after escalating crime spree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A British serial sex attacker will spend the rest of his life in jail, a judge said on Wednesday, after he was convicted of two murders and rape following an escalating spree of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/sexual-assault\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sexual offenses<\/a> that police and prosecutors failed to stop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Simon Levy, 40, was found guilty last week of the murder of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo in March 2025 and of Sheryl Wilkins in August 2025, and of the rape and serious assault of a third woman in January that year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">A life sentence is the most severe punishment in the UK and is extremely rare \u2013 with only just over 70 people currently serving the term in England and Wales, according to data from the London Metropolitan Police.<\/p>\n<p>Police had arrested Levy several times for sexual assaults against women on rush-hour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-905110\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trains<\/a> before he was arrested on suspicion of murdering Valencia-Trujillo, 53, in April 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">But Levy was released and sexually assaulted five women before he killed Wilkins, 39, in a brutal attack.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Sheryl Wilkins (L) and Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo (R).\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"822\" height=\"829\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/images.jpost.com\/image\/upload\/f_auto,fl_lossy\/c_fill,g_faces:center,h_537,w_822\/733699\"\/>Sheryl Wilkins (L) and Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo (R). (credit: LONDON METROPOLITAN POLICE)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">London&#8217;s Metropolitan Police said Levy was released because they were then unable to confirm any third-party involvement in Valencia-Trujillo&#8217;s death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Its chief, Mark Rowley, told reporters the force &#8220;could have done better, definitely,&#8221; but added that &#8220;the justice system needs to do its job better.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Levy&#8217;s crimes and the failures by police and prosecutors that allowed him to continue offending have prompted criticism, coming after a report in December said British police must ensure early intervention in cases of predatory behavior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Harriet Wistrich, CEO of the Centre for Women&#8217;s Justice, said: &#8220;The catalog of combined failures in this case provides terrifying evidence &#8230; that our criminal justice system is in a state of collapse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>London mayor calls for review of law enforcement<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Judge Mark Lucraft said Levy was &#8220;clearly someone who ruthlessly exploits others for your own personal, sexual satisfaction&#8221; as he sentenced him to a whole-life order for the murders of Valencia-Trujillo and Wilkins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">He was also sentenced for two counts of rape, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and intentional strangulation in relation to a third woman.<\/p>\n<p>London mayor &#8216;appalled by Levy&#8217;s crimes and the failures across multiple agencies&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Levy was separately convicted in February of sexually assaulting 10 women on London trains between October 2023 and May 2025, with six of the attacks in early 2025, and an 11th charge of sexually assaulting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-905333\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prison<\/a> officer in April 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">He was arrested in 2024 and early 2025 by British Transport Police, including after he was a suspect for rape and Valencia-Trujillo&#8217;s murder, but was granted bail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The Met has referred itself to the police watchdog for downgrading him to a medium-risk offender in 2024, while BTP and the Crown Prosecution Service have also admitted some failures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/article-904333\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London Mayor Sadiq Khan<\/a> said in a statement that he was &#8220;appalled by his crimes and the failures across multiple agencies,&#8221; calling for a multi-agency review to try and stop it from happening again.<\/p>\n<p>Jerusalem Post staff contributed to this report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A British serial sex attacker will spend the rest of his life in jail, a judge said on&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":69790,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[102,4697,12423,27393,14027,14026,1259,95,2644],"class_list":["post-69789","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-valencia","tag-crime","tag-london","tag-murder","tag-prison-sentence","tag-rape","tag-sexual-assault","tag-united-kingdom","tag-valencia","tag-violence"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/69789","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=69789"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/69789\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/69790"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=69789"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=69789"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=69789"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
