\nOn August 12th, 2026, the Moon
\ntotally eclipsed<\/a>
\nthe Sun and
\ncast its shadow<\/a>
\nacross Siberia, Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and Portugal.
\nToday\u2019s image<\/a>
\nfeatures two
\ntotal solar eclipses<\/a>
\nviewed from
\nZaragoza, Spain<\/a>,
\none over the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar and the other reflecting
\nin the Ebro River. For a few moments, Spain saw its first major total solar eclipse
\nsince 1905. Those witnessing totality may experience a chill in the air, the
\nquieting of birds, the confused chirps of insects, and the shared awe of many. It\u2019s
\nthe corona<\/a>\u2019s
\ntime to shine as the Sun\u2019s bright disk is blocked by the Moon. Among other
\nreasons to study eclipses<\/a>,
\nthey help scientists understand why the corona is millions of degrees hotter than the Sun\u2019s surface.
\nEnthusiastic citizens<\/a>
\ncan contribute to these studies by recording how wildlife responds, imaging the corona,
\nand monitoring air temperature and clouds.<\/p>\n
