Manchester City has accepted FC Barcelona\u2019s latest transfer offer for captain and star midfielder Rodri according to Fabrizio Romano and Mundo Deportivo<\/a>.<\/p>\n Neither source had details on the final fee at the time of publishing, but Rodri is expected to travel to Barcelona in the coming days to complete a medical then sign on the dotted line ahead of the Joan Gamper Trophy match.<\/p>\n The development caps off a whirlwind transfer saga, which began on Thursday morning last week.<\/p>\n That\u2019s when reports spread of talks breaking down<\/a> between City and Real Madrid, as per a potential switch to the Bernabeu for the Spain skipper. <\/p>\n Bar\u00e7a then gained traction in the hunt for the 30-year-old voted the Best Player at the World Cup, when leading Spain to its second victory in the FIFA flagship tournament.<\/p>\n A phone call from the Catalans\u2019 head coach Hansi Flick played a big part in convincing Rodri of the sporting project at the Spotify Camp Nou. He then swiftly gave his \u2018OK\u2019,<\/a> to what will be one of the club\u2019s biggest transfers of the 21st century in terms of stature.<\/p>\n On Spanish radio, Rodri\u2019s agent confirmed that his client preferred a move to Barcelona over Real Madrid, who had made the former Ballon d\u2019Or holder a reasonable personal offer.<\/p>\n Bar\u00e7a and City then began negotiations after Rodri agreed personal terms. Bar\u00e7a\u2019s initial bid of $52 million (\u20ac45 million) was knocked back<\/a>, and RAC1 later claimed that a \u20ac50 million deal had been agreed.<\/p>\n Many sources in Catalonia and England said that wasn\u2019t true, which it proved not be.<\/p>\n Bar\u00e7a\u2019s second offer<\/a> on Thursday this week was for \u20ac60 million plus add-ons, which took the final proposed amount to \u20ac70 million.<\/p>\n That too was knocked back, but after at least two known failed attempts, one of Bar\u00e7a\u2019s biggest transfers of the 21st century finally appears to be happening. <\/p>\n Rodri will take FC Barcelona\u2019s midfield to a new dimension<\/p>\n Though it is an area of the pitch where Bar\u00e7a is traditionally stacked and never short of talent, the midfield now takes a massive step up in quality with Rodri pulling the strings.<\/p>\n The increased control Rodri will bring helps Bar\u00e7a take a step forward in the Champions League. It\u2019s a competition he\u2019s already won at City in 2023, though his new club is yet to bring it home in 11 years after semifinals and quarterfinals exits in two attempts under Flick.<\/p>\n Rodri will also allow FC Barcelona to press higher in attack.
