{"id":71806,"date":"2026-08-17T18:35:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T18:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/71806\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T18:35:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T18:35:10","slug":"report-barcelonas-captaincy-order-for-2026-27-as-two-new-players-enter-hierarchy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/71806\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Barcelona&#8217;s captaincy order for 2026\/27 as two new players enter hierarchy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/barcauniversal.com\/barcelona-winger-set-to-be-named-first-captain-for-2026-27-season-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">As reported just a while ago<\/a>, FC Barcelona winger Raphinha has been named the first captain of the team for the 2026\/27 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While official confirmation of the same is awaited, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ballondor\/status\/2089402200027963787\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ballon d\u2019Or<\/a> has built on that report, revealing the entire five-man captaincy\u2019s group for the Catalan club for the upcoming campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Raphinha on top<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo, the first two captains of the team last season, are no longer at Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The German shot-stopper has left for Ajax on loan, while the Uruguayan defender has joined Liverpool on a temporary deal with a \u20ac55 million permanent purchase option.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This left the top spot in the club\u2019s leadership group vacant. And while Frenkie de Jong, who was the third captain last season, would have been a contender to take the spot, the report states that Raphinha has been elected the first captain.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/fc-basel-v-fc-barcelona-pre-season-friendly-6-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Raphinha of FC Barcelona\" class=\"wp-image-209504\"  \/>The new first captain. (Photo by Daniela Porcelli\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not come as a surprise considering how beloved and respected Raphinha is by his teammates and the entire dressing room. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, De Jong is also currently injured and is expected to be sidelined for a few more months at least. While he might not have been elevated to the first captain position, the Dutchman will be the second in command as per the report.<\/p>\n<p>Gavi, Eric Garcia join the leadership group<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Pedri, who was the fifth captain for Barcelona last season, climbs up the ladder to become the third captain for the 2026\/27 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most important players for Hansi Flick, the Spanish international\u2019s rise in the captaincy hierarchy is more than deserved.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/fc-barcelona-v-stade-brestois-29-uefa-champions-league-2024-25-league-phase-md5-1024x667.jpg\" alt=\"Eric Garcia and Gavi of FC Barcelona\" class=\"wp-image-209510\"  \/>Two new additions to Barcelona\u2019s captaincy group. (Photo by Alex Caparros\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the final two slots, there are two new players who have entered the captaincy hierarchy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, La Masia midfielder Gavi, another beloved member of the group, who has become known for leaving everything on the pitch, has been named the fourth captain for Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Eric Garcia will be the fifth captain for the 2026\/27 season.
