Aiden Campbell is set to stand trial in Tenerife over the charge<\/p>\n

A Peterhead<\/a> man detained during a holiday in Croatia last month is set to stand trial<\/a> in Spain.<\/p>\n

Aiden Campbell is understood to have been travelling with a group of friends when he was apprehended at Split Saint Jerome Airport on Thursday, July 30.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old was arrested in Tenerife in September 2024 in connection with a public health charge. The full details of the charge are not currently known.<\/p>\n

After his detention, the Provincial Court of Tenerife issued a warrant for him after he failed to attend a hearing. He was subsequently detained after travelling to Croatia last month, the Record reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Campbell is expected to be moved from Croatia to Tenerife where he will face trial over the charge. The Spanish courts confirm they are waiting for Campbell’s transfer from Croatia.<\/p>\n

Following this he will appear in a Tenerife court over the accusation.<\/p>\n

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it was supporting Campbell and his family. An update on the case is expected in September.<\/p>\n

An FCDO Spokesperson said: “We are supporting a British national who has been detained in Croatia, and his family. We are also in contact with the local authorities.”<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands said: “The proceedings are located in Section V of the Provincial Audience of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.<\/p>\n

“They tell me that Mr Campbell has not yet moved to Spain.
