Spain’s national weather agency, AEMET, has issued an alert over a number of areas that are extremely popular with UK holidaymakers.<\/p>\n

The Canary Islands<\/a>, including Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote, are favoured due to their mild weather and sunny climes.<\/p>\n

But in a new post on X, formerly Twitter<\/a>, AEMET said this has not recently been the case.<\/p>\n

The alert, translated from Spanish, reads: “March 2026 was a normal month in terms of temperatures and precipitation across Spain as a whole. In the Canary Islands, it was the rainiest March in the historical record, mainly due to the influence of Storm Therese.”<\/p>\n

Further information on the AEMET website explains there was 456% more rainfall last month than the usual average for March.<\/p>\n

However, there is good news for Brits planning to visit the Canary Islands over the coming week.<\/p>\n

According to the Met Office, Tenerife will experience minimal rain, if any, with plenty of sunshine and highs of 23C.<\/p>\n

The forecast for Lanzarote is not as good, with some rain anticipated, although there’ll be lots of sun too – and highs of 23C. The outlook for Gran Canaria is similar, though with expected highs of 24C on Thursday.<\/p>\n

And in Fuerteventura, Tuesday and Thursday, April 14 and 16, look to be the nicest days. The forecast is for sunshine and highs of 21C and 24C, respectively.<\/p>\n
