{"id":75073,"date":"2026-08-24T14:18:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T14:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/75073\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T14:18:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T14:18:11","slug":"barcelona-academy-wonderkid-out-for-five-weeks-with-ankle-injury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/75073\/","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona academy wonderkid out for five weeks with ankle injury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mundodeportivo.com\/futbol\/fc-barcelona\/20260824\/1004219223\/ebrima-cinco-semanas-baja.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Mundo Deportivo<\/a>, FC Barcelona teenage wonderkid Ebrima Tunkara has been sidelined with an ankle injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ebrima trained with the reserve team on Friday after spending the entire pre-season with the first team. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This past weekend, he played a few minutes in Bar\u00e7a Atletic\u2019s friendly against Vilanova, but was forced off after taking a heavy blow to his ankle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medical tests were carried out on Monday and, according to reports, Ebrima will be sidelined for around five weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The academy player had been named in the Spain Under-18 squad for an upcoming friendly tournament in Alfaz del Pi. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/619193159_17857592805598433_4758330433875040759_n-1920x1080-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Ebrima Tunkara, Barcelona player\" class=\"wp-image-193264\"  \/>Ebrima Tunkara is injured. (Picture credit: Instagram\/@ebrimatunkara10)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, following the injury, the 16-year-old sensation will be replaced by another Bar\u00e7a gem, Michal Zuk. He joins four other Bar\u00e7a players in the squad: Jordi Pesquer, Raul Exposito, Sergi Mayans and Roberto Tomas.<\/p>\n<p>Expected to be important for Bar\u00e7a Atletic<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plan is for Ebrima to play an important role for Bar\u00e7a Atletic this season. His injury, however, means he will miss roughly the first five league matches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reserve side will open their campaign against Naxara at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, followed by an away trip to face Logrones Promesas and another at Barbastro. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They will then host Pena Sport, with Ebrima potentially returning against Tudelano on the first weekend of October.<\/p>\n<p>One of pre-season\u2019s biggest surprises<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before the injury, Ebrima had been one of Barcelona\u2019s standout academy players during pre-season with the first team. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/619205944_17857592796598433_3393043740469606859_n-1920x1080-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Ebrima Tunkara\" class=\"wp-image-200391\"  \/>Ebrima Tunkara impressed during pre-season. (Picture credit: Instagram\/@ebrimatunkara10)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He featured in three friendlies and was included among the academy players presented with the first-team squad at the Joan Gamper Trophy, where he made his first appearance at Spotify Camp Nou.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flick was able to watch him train closely and was very impressed by what he saw.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ebrima\u2019s talent has also attracted attention from several European clubs, who have tried to convince the player and his representatives to move elsewhere. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The youngster, however, is <a href=\"https:\/\/barcauniversal.com\/report-16-year-old-la-masia-jewel-wants-only-barcelona-amid-interest-from-top-european-clubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">happy with Barcelona\u2019s development plan<\/a> and remains committed to the club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barcelona have invested heavily in the teenage wonderkid\u2019s development because they believe he is one of the academy\u2019s strongest candidates to eventually break into the first team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona teenage wonderkid Ebrima Tunkara has been sidelined with an ankle injury.
