{"id":76747,"date":"2026-08-27T17:36:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T17:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/76747\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T17:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T17:36:07","slug":"police-await-postmortems-on-irish-woman-and-her-husband-found-dead-in-hot-tub-in-spain-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/76747\/","title":{"rendered":"Police await postmortems on Irish woman and her husband found dead in hot tub in Spain \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Investigators believe postmortems on an Irish woman and her husband, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/08\/26\/irish-couple-found-dead-by-their-children-at-apartment-complex-in-spain\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/08\/26\/irish-couple-found-dead-by-their-children-at-apartment-complex-in-spain\/\">bodies were found in a Jacuzzi<\/a> in a Spanish resort, are likely to help explain their deaths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The couple\u2019s teenage children found the bodies in the hot tub on Tuesday in a rented villa in Cullera, near the city of Valencia on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/spain\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/spain\/\">Spain\u2019s<\/a> east coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The local civil guard had initially reported that the deceased were Irish. However, it has corrected that information and clarified their ages, saying that the woman was a 51-year-old Irish national and her husband was 48 and from New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Homicide detectives are handling the case. However, local media have reported there were no signs of a break-in at the property and investigators have not ruled out other possible causes of the deaths, with an accident seen as a likely explanation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">At least one of the bodies was found with puncture marks on the skin, although investigators believe these could be consistent with a fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Thursday night the results of the postmortems, which were being carried out in Valencia, were still pending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cMany of the hypotheses are subject to what comes out of the autopsies,\u201d civil guard spokesman Pablo Cea told The Irish Times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It is understood the woman is from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/monaghan\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/monaghan\">Monaghan<\/a>.
