\t\t\t\t\tA prescription pill was found in a Kraft and Heinz box of Cheesecake mix sold at a Ralphs grocery store this week in Valencia.<\/p>\n

Chris Velona, a Santa Clarita resident, was baking cheesecake for his son Sebastian, who has a compromised immune system due to CLN8 Batten disease, when he found a pill in the graham cracker crust mix.<\/p>\n

When Velona opened the no-bake Jell-O cheesecake mix he bought at the Granary Square location of Ralphs Grocery Store, he thought he was seeing things.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce I got home and started to make the product, I noticed that when I opened up the crust side of the mix, which is an orange type of substance, a pill came out of the packaging, which is the same color of the mix,\u201d Velona said. \u201cI thought I was seeing things, I rubbed my eyes, like I didn\u2019t understand, like, was that a pill that just went in there? And sure enough, I sifted through the mix with my fingers and I found this pill.\u201d<\/p>\n

After finding the pill, Velona thought there was no way it was medication.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAt first I thought it may have been some of the sugar had congealed,\u201d Velona said. \u201cBut as I brushed it off, it was a pill with markings and a scoreline, and I just stopped in my tracks. I was just terrified.\u201d<\/p>\n

Immediately after finding the pill, Velona contacted Kraft Heinz as well as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Granary Square Ralphs to report the incident, according to Velona.<\/p>\n

The FDA confirmed it is investigating the incident and would get back to Velona.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Velona googled the numbers on the pill found in the cheesecake mix and found it was Propranolol, a beta-blocker blood pressure medication manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals under the Pliva brand.<\/p>\n

Velona told KHTS he was just grateful he found the pill, because anyone could have a negative response to unexpectedly ingesting an unknown pill. But with Sebastian being in an immunocompromised state due to CLN8 Batten disease, Velona asked, \u201cWhat could that have done to him?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this time, we have not received a complaint of this nature through consumer channels nor from FDA,\u201d a Kraft Heinz spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0As of publication, Velona and KHTS have not received a response from the FDA or Ralphs\/Kroger regarding the investigation.<\/p>\n
