Madrid Formula 1 Banked Turn and Grandstands<\/p>\n(GMM) Carlos Sainz Jr. (pictured)\u00a0 says Madrid\u2019s new Formula 1 circuit will be difficult and spectacular, but is not yet ready to accept James Vowles\u2019 description of it as a potential \u201ccar killer\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Williams boss made the remark after the recent Formula 3 test produced 19 red flags, three broken chassis, and six suspension failures.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the \u2018car killer\u2019 label is for F3 cars at the moment,\u201d Sainz said at Monza on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll have to see if it\u2019s an F1 \u2018car killer\u2019 or not. What\u2019s clear is that it\u2019s a very complicated, very spectacular circuit.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve all said it after driving it in the simulator \u2013 we were surprised by how complicated it is and how difficult it will be.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sainz, who is also an ambassador for the new Madring event, said the circuit at least has genuine character.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that at least in that respect it will be a circuit with character, with difficulty, not just another circuit added to the calendar for no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIf it\u2019s too much or if some corner or curb needs to be changed or whatever, well, there will be time over the years to improve it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
One particular focus will be the heavily banked La Monumental section, with Pirelli estimating it could put 20 to 30 percent more energy through the tires than Zandvoort\u2019s comparable banking.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s harder than Zandvoort, I can tell you that,\u201d a Pirelli spokesman told Kolner Express.<\/p>\n
For Madrid native Sainz, however, the biggest immediate challenge may be everything surrounding the race.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to try to enjoy it to the fullest because it\u2019s my home race and I have to make an extra effort for my country and my city,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
