{"id":81971,"date":"2026-09-07T10:53:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T10:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/81971\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T10:53:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T10:53:07","slug":"spains-economy-minister-says-no-firm-evidence-links-morocco-to-ceuta-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/81971\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain\u2019s Economy Minister Says No Firm Evidence Links Morocco to Ceuta Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rabat \u2013 Spain\u2019s First Deputy Prime Minister Carlos Cuerpo has urged caution when discussing Morocco\u2019s possible role in the mass migration crisis in Ceuta, saying there is still no firm evidence linking the Moroccan government to the mass arrivals in late July.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/efe.com\/espana\/2026-09-07\/desayunos-cuerpo-marruecos-crisis-migratoria\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Speaking<\/a> Monday on Los Desayunos, a joint program by Spain\u2019s RTVE and EFE, Cuerpo said Spain should show \u201cenormous prudence\u201d toward Morocco while investigations continue into the events of July 30 and 31.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no conclusive evidence\u201d that would establish the Moroccan government\u2019s responsibility for the mass arrival of migrants, Cuerpo said. He added that this does not mean Spain should stop investigating what happened.<\/p>\n<p>His comments come amid political pressure over the crisis, with opposition parties and some members of Spain\u2019s governing coalition taking a more critical position on Morocco\u2019s alleged role.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 80,000 migrants <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moroccoworldnews.com\/2026\/09\/337377\/moroccan-migrants-return-from-ceuta-after-weeks-of-hardship\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">arrived<\/a> in Ceuta during the crisis, creating severe pressure on the Spanish-occupied enclave and sparking protests over the government\u2019s handling of the situation. Spanish authorities have since announced additional security and economic measures for Ceuta.<\/p>\n<p>Cuerpo also pointed to the economic importance of Spain\u2019s relationship with Morocco, arguing that the bilateral relationship should be protected while the investigation continues.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish exports to Morocco exceeded \u20ac12 billion last year, he said, compared with more than \u20ac16 billion in exports to the United States. The figures indicate Morocco\u2019s importance as a major market for Spanish companies.<\/p>\n<p>The minister\u2019s comments also come as Madrid seeks to ease tensions surrounding the crisis while maintaining cooperation with Rabat.
