Electricity generated by self-consumption installations is estimated at around\u00a01,600 GWh\u00a0during the month based on data available so far.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eventmandi.com\/app\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/EventMandi-app-banner.webp\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the first eight months of 2026, Spain\u2019s total electricity demand reached\u00a0175,858 GWh, up\u00a02.8% year-on-year. After accounting for temperature and working-day variations, the increase stood at\u00a01.7%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rise in demand comes alongside continued growth in solar capacity across European markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Renewable energy generation in Spain increased\u00a011%\u00a0from August 2025 to\u00a013,640 GWh, giving renewables a\u00a053.6% share\u00a0of the country\u2019s electricity generation mix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solar photovoltaic remained Spain\u2019s largest source of electricity generation for the\u00a0fifth consecutive month. PV generation increased\u00a027.5%\u00a0year-on-year to\u00a07,445 GWh, representing\u00a029.2%\u00a0of the total generation mix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solar PV also recorded a new daily production high on\u00a0August 5, when it generated\u00a0281.2 GWh\u00a0in a single day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Combined-cycle gas plants accounted for\u00a020.7%\u00a0of electricity generation in August, making them the second-largest source. Nuclear power followed with\u00a018.6%, while wind accounted for\u00a013.3%\u00a0and hydropower for\u00a06.9%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall,\u00a072.2%\u00a0of Spain\u2019s electricity generation during the month came from carbon-free sources. The volume of carbon-free electricity increased\u00a08.2%\u00a0compared with August 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When generation from self-consumption installations is included, the estimated contribution of renewable sources to Spain\u2019s electricity mix rises to\u00a055.1%\u00a0in August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain also used energy storage and pumped-hydro facilities to integrate more renewable electricity into the grid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of\u00a0954 GWh\u00a0was incorporated into the electricity system through battery storage and pumped hydro during August.
