Investors are keeping an eye on the evolution of the conflict between the United States and Iran after the new exchange of attacks recorded in recent hours. The U.S. military claimed to have destroyed five Iranian tankers on September 8, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard later announced missile attacks against a U.S. base in Jordan and against two U.S. destroyers.<\/p>\n
The escalation is having a direct reflection in the energy market. Brent crude, the benchmark in Europe, rose 1.4% at the opening of European stock exchanges, reaching 99.3 dollars per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the benchmark in the United States, advanced 1.3%, reaching 94.2 dollars.<\/p>\n
Brent has thus accumulated an increase of nearly 13% so far in September and is 47% above the level of a year ago.<\/p>\n
Repsol leads the gains of the selective index<\/p>\n
The evolution of companies in the energy sector contrasts with the pressure on a good part of the Ibex values. Repsol led the advances in the early stages of the day with an increase of nearly 2%, while Endesa, Naturgy, and Enag\u00e1s also traded higher.<\/p>\n
Market data also reflected advances in Iberdrola, Red El\u00e9ctrica, and Telef\u00f3nica, while Solaria was also moving positively. Among the values with the largest declines were Inditex, Puig, Aena, and several financial entities.<\/p>\n
Inditex registers a record profit but falls more than 3%<\/p>\n
Inditex has communicated before the opening that it obtained a net profit of 2.980 billion euros during the first half of its fiscal year 2026-2027, between February 1 and July 31. The figure represents an increase of 6.8% compared to the same period of the previous year and marks a new record for the company.<\/p>\n
Despite these results, Inditex’s shares suffered a sharp decline on the stock market. In the early stages of trading, they lost more than 3%, with a minimum recorded in the available data of 53.78 euros. At 9:40 a.m., the value stood at 54.86 euros, with a drop of 2.94%.<\/p>\n

The decline of the Madrid market is framed within a negative opening of the main European markets. Milan and Frankfurt fell around 0.4%, Paris dropped 0.6%, and London lost 0.3% in the early stages of the session.<\/p>\n
In the foreign exchange market, the euro regained positions against the dollar and was exchanged at 1.1642 dollars.
