Travel experts have warned that increased passenger numbers, combined with ongoing pressures at major airports, could lead to delays, longer queues and limited availability during peak holiday periods.<\/p>\n

Despite strong demand, Ryanair<\/a> has confirmed it will scale back some of its direct flights to Spain due to rising operational costs, potentially reducing options for travellers.<\/p>\n

The airline\u2019s CEO, Eddie Wilson, said: “Next winter we will make further cuts to regional airport services, and I remind you that our total traffic in Spain for this summer will only grow by 0.5 per cent compared to 9 per cent in Italy, 11 per cent in Morocco or 20 per cent in Poland.”<\/p>\n

Spain remains one of the most in-demand destinations for UK holidaymakers, with hotspots such as Alicante, Malaga and Barcelona continuing to attract strong interest.<\/p>\n

However, the combination of rising demand and reduced flight availability could mean higher prices and fewer route options for Brits looking to secure summer sun.<\/p>\n

ABTA<\/a> \u2013 The Travel Association has also highlighted Spain\u2019s continued popularity among UK travellers.<\/p>\n

Graeme Buck, Director of Communications at ABTA, said: “Spain remains the number one overseas destination for UK travellers, and has been for decades. We\u2019re continuing to see strong demand for holidays to mainland Spain and the Balearic and Canary Islands, with many people opting for European destinations.<\/p>\n

“This is alongside some shifts in travel patterns following the conflict in the Middle East, which has affected where people can holiday, with some choosing to change their plans and travel to Europe instead. More broadly, our members have reported strong bookings for Spanish destinations, reflecting Spain\u2019s ongoing popularity due to its accessibility, range of holiday options and value for money.”<\/p>\n

He added: “Across Europe, a new passport control system \u2013 the Entry\/Exit System (EES) \u2013 has been introduced. People have had mixed experiences with this new check, from no issue at all to lengthy queues. If you are travelling to Europe, our advice is to follow the guidance from your airline, airport or travel provider, including when to arrive at the airport when returning back to the UK. We\u2019re also recommending people go to passport control as soon as they can, and be prepared for the possibility of queues.”<\/p>\n
