{"id":9266,"date":"2026-04-21T22:04:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T22:04:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/9266\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T22:04:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T22:04:38","slug":"banco-santander-executive-to-take-top-job-at-uk-bank-ahead-of-tsb-merger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/9266\/","title":{"rendered":"Banco Santander executive to take top job at UK bank ahead of TSB merger"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">High street lending giant Santander has appointed an executive at its Spanish owner to take the helm of the UK business ahead of its merger with smaller rival TSB.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Mahesh Aditya, who is currently group chief risk officer at Banco Santander, will become chief executive of the UK bank on March 1, replacing outgoing boss Mike Regnier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Santander \u2013 which on Thursday revealed another 44 UK branch closures \u2013 announced in October that Mr Regnier planned to step down after four years as it prepares to integrate TSB after agreeing a \u00a32.65 billion deal in July to acquire its smaller UK rival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The group is expected to complete the TSB takeover later this quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Santander chairman Tom Scholar said Mr Aditya had \u201cwide industry experience and deep knowledge of the Santander Group\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">He said: \u201cHe is ideally placed to lead Santander UK through the next phase of our transformation and oversee a successful acquisition and integration of TSB.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u201cThis will be critical to our ambition to be the best bank for customers in the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/spain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/81c1c41c91b20966df26d2235e24b097.jpeg\" alt=\"Handout photo of Mahesh Aditya, seated on the back of a sofa wearing a shirt and tie\" loading=\"eager\" height=\"1280\" width=\"960\" class=\"yf-lglytj  loaded\"\/> Mahesh Aditya will become chief executive of Santander UK on March 1 (Santander\/PA)      <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Mr Aditya said he was joining Santander UK at an \u201cimportant time\u201d for the lender.\u201cThe acquisition of TSB will both accelerate our transformation and add to the considerable inward investment group has made in the UK since it entered the market in 2004,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u201cIt will enhance our offer to customers, enable us to grow and become a more competitive business creating genuine value for our investors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Mr Aditya has been group chief risk officer at Banco Santander since 2023, having previously spent six years at Santander\u2019s US arm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Prior to joining Santander, he worked at firms including Citi, JPMorgan Chase &amp;
