Germany remained the bloc’s biggest host of foreign-born people at nearly 18 \u2060million, 72% of them of working age, \u200bwhile Spain<\/a> \u200bposted \u200cthe fastest recent growth, adding about 700,000 to bring its foreign-born population<\/a> \u200cto 9.5 million.<\/p>\n “Germany remains the main destination for migrants in Europe, both in absolute terms and, to a significant \u2060extent, relative to its \u200cpopulation,” said Tommaso Frattini, one of the authors of the report. Asylum claims were also concentrated \u2060in \u200bcertain countries, with Spain, Italy, France and Germany \u200baccounting for nearly three-quarters of all applications.
