Next Frontier of Romania’s Energy Revolution: Storage As a key element of the global energy transition, energy storage has become the next frontier. This enables the integration of renewable sources and ensures grid stability. Also, a pillar of energy efficiency strategies, energy storage is gaining significant momentum worldwide. SolarPower Europe, for example, foresees significant BESS expansion in Europe - a sixfold increase to nearly 120 GWh by 2029, driving total capacity to 400 GWh. Thus, EU needs 500 GWh-780 GWh of BESS to meet 2030 renewables targets and to fully support the transition. Major stages to achieve energy efficiency in Romania In Romania, companies are continuously investing in self-consumption projects to achieve important objectives related to optimizing budgets and adapting to sustainability requirements. Installing photovoltaic panels, setting up charging stations and diversifying fleets on sustainable principles is the first step in creating an energy-efficient project. But the benefits came with challenges. Changes in legislation, additional taxes, overproduction and reduced grid capacity have become risk factors in project development. The consumption profile of energy-intensive companies has become a factor of analysis, and the consumption units with a night profile quickly saw that a missing link in the consumption efficiency project. While some companies are sticking to a classic model, other entrepreneurs are thinking not only about energy efficiency, but also about scaling their business by installing storage systems. Romania is in the second stage of energy development, with an estimated battery storage requirement for utility-scale projects of approximately 2-4 GW by 2030. According to the authorities, this capacity is essential to ensure grid flexibility and integration of the large volumes of renewable energy planned. The pressure is growing as from July 1, 2025, with the lifting of the electricity price cap, substantial cost increases are expected, with estimates indicating an increase by at least 30%, possibly as much as 50% or even a doubling of bills. This change puts additional pressure on operating budgets, in a context where Romania is already facing one of the highest electricity costs in Europe. Energy storage systems: A strategic solution Battery energy storage systems (BESS) enable significant savings by reducing peak demand savings, which can account for up to 70% of a company’s energy bill. By storing energy during periods of low prices and using it at peak times or when prices are high, costs are optimized, and greater energy independence is achieved. BESS also facilitate participation in demand response programs and grid services, opening up new revenue streams by monetizing energy flexibility. The decreasing costs of batteries and the supporting legislative frameworks today make investing in a storage system a natural strategic decision, offering a competitive advantage to companies focused on ESG objectives and on reducing operational costs. Solax Power Solutions for C&I Projects SolaX Power, a global leader in energy solutions, has launched new products dedicated to companies that want to integrate advanced technologies, flexibility and intelligent energy management capabilities. • TRENE + DC CHARGER: A flexible and scalable PV-ESS-EV integrated solution, reaching up to 1.25 MW power and 2.61 MWh total storage capacity. The system is smart, offering up to one year of local data collection and storage, forecasting and revenue optimization, in a robust design with maximum security. Its technology enables intelligent distribution of charging power for various electric vehicles with a wide voltage range of 200-1.000V, ensuring compatibility with all current charging scenarios, offering charging powers of 120kW/180kW/240kW/300kW/360kW. • ESS-TRENE (Liquid Cooling) 261 kWh/unit: The AC-coupled liquid-cooled storage cabinet utilizes premium LFP batteries for high performance, MWh-level scalability and intelligent cell-level temperature control. Its smart design supports VPP (Virtual Power Plant) functionality through SolaXCloud and allows remote monitoring and maintenance. Safety is ensured by four levels of fire protection, aerosol suppression and advanced fault detection. The system is flexible, integrates seamlessly into the grid and has the ability to operate both on and off-grid. • TRENE-P500B1044L-2H / TRENE-P499B1044L-2H: These liquid cooled energy storage systems feature high performance with LFP batteries and a compact all-in-one design that optimizes space utilization. They provide enhanced safety through multi-level monitoring, fire-resistant compartments and an integrated fire detection and suppression system. Smart design includes advanced energy management and micro-grid support with 24/7 remote monitoring. Flexibility is guaranteed through modular design, high IP-rated components and easy maintenance, with a storage capacity of 1 MWh. • X3-TRENE PCS: The X3-TRENE power converter offers a maximum efficiency of 98.0% and utilizes intelligent air cooling. It has a wide range of AC voltages (320-460V) and frequencies and is designed for efficient grid integration. The model features multiple communication interfaces (RS485, CAN, Ethernet), ensuring robust connectivity. With a rated AC output power of 124.9 kW or 125 kW, it contributes to optimal energy management. • ORI-P7500B15045L-2H / ORI-P5000B10030L-2H: These liquid cooled energy storage systems are designed for rapid deployment with pre-installed components and factory pre-commissioning. Cost efficiency is maximized through intelligent clusters and liquid cooling that ensure temperature uniformity, reducing operational costs. The systems incorporate advanced safety features, including multi-level monitoring and fire compartments. It offers outstanding flexibility thanks to its modular design and rugged components for harsh conditions, with a rated energy capacity of 5 MWh for the ORI-P7500 version. SolaX Power’s portfolio also includes hybrid inverters, with the company claiming to be the first in Asia to develop from scratch and produce an energy storage inverter in 2013. In 2017, it developed the world's first three-phase hybrid inverter, already in its fourth generation of storage inverters, available for any size of project, from 300-2,400W micro-inverters, to 60 kW hybrid inverters and the new X3-GRAND HV, 300kW/320kW/333kW/350kW. Since 2025, SolaX Power has launched efficient, modern and intelligent air-to-water heat pumps, further optimizing energy consumption in both private homes and commercial buildings. They supply the thermal agent in a flexible way, on 3 different circuits in parallel: in radiators, underfloor or through split units, providing cooling, heating and domestic hot water all year round. Connected to the SolaX Cloud, it will learn your consumption habits and operate at maximum efficiency, communicating optimally with the PV power plant and storage system. The next step in sustainable energy construction will be the implementation of energy management systems. These systems (EMS) are digital platforms, which monitor and control energy consumption and production, enabling the efficient integration of renewables and batteries. An advanced EMS can manage multiple consumption units - such as buildings, factories or logistics centres - and connect them to common production sources, such as a photovoltaic or wind power plant. Thus, energy is distributed intelligently between locations according to demand, a micro-grid or virtual power plant (VPP - Virtual Power Plant) can be created, consumption is balanced, losses are reduced, and self-consumption is maximized. The next steps require planning and investment, but the benefits are visible in the long term, creating stability for the business and predictability for entrepreneurs. SolaX Power supports those who want to invest in ambitious future plans for their businesses.
