After a first-round bye, third seed Alexander Bublik will face Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round of the BOSS Open 2026.
Bublik started the season with a title in Hong Kong, and followed it up with a fourth-round showing at the Australian Open. A semifinal in Rotterdam a couple of weeks later was another highlight. However, his results took a hit for the remainder of the hardcourt swing.
The clay season didn’t bring any respite for Bublik, during which he was inconsistent at best. A quarterfinal loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the Monte-Carlo Masters kicked off his clay swing. Following early exits from Munich, Madrid, and Rome, he bounced back with a semifinal in Geneva. Seeded ninth at the French Open, he was sent packing by Struff in the first round.
Struff lost to Bublik in the Rotterdam quarterfinals, the only time he won matches on hardcourts this season. He made the second round of the Madrid Open, the Italian Open, and the French Open during the clay swing. He was up against qualifier Alexis Galarneau in the first round of the BOSS Open.
Struff claimed the opening set with a couple of service breaks in his favor. Galarneau fought back to capture the second set via a tie-break. Struff had the last laugh in the end, requiring only a single break of serve in the decider to score a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3 win.
