There are handheld fans and then there’s Shark’s ChillPill 3. It only launched at the end of May but sold out in many shades within days, largely thanks to the May heatwave. Proving it isn’t just a one-week wonder, the portable fan has since been pictured in the hands of pro tennis players in the lead up to Wimbledon – and we fully anticipate seeing it in the sports bags of others when the competition kicks off at the end of the month.
Why all the fuss, you ask? Combining the brand’s fan expertise with cryo-inspired beauty tech, the gadget is designed to actively cool the body rather than just waft around warm air. Alongside a high-speed fan (that projects airflow of up to 7.5m/s – great, for a compact device), there’s an evaporative mist attachment that refreshes skin without leaving it drenched, plus an InstaChill cooling plate that provides instant contact cooling, lowering skin temperature by up to 9°C. Simply click on your chosen attachment, twist it into place and take it wherever the heatwave finds you.
Priced at £129.99, it doesn’t exactly come cheap, but if you regularly commute on the London underground or train, struggle to work in a hot living room or office, or need a quick way to cool down after playing an outdoor sport, it’ll be worth its weight in gold.

Where Shark has also been clever is in launching the ChillPill in a range of fun colours, almost making it a collectable item instead of a boring and functional grey or black fan.
