The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club has begun the second phase of its $60 million resort-wide renovation with the redesign of all 90 of its guest rooms.
The hotel, located at 2000 Spindrift Drive in La Jolla Shores, will remain open during guest room renovations, which will be completed in stages. Members and guests will continue to have access to on-site amenities. The project is slated for completion by Memorial Day 2027.
“The new guest rooms are designed to feel like a natural extension of everything people love about staying at the Beach [& Tennis] Club, said La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club managing director Michael O’Donohue. “The spaces will be brighter, more open, functional and view-focused, while maintaining the warm, coastal feel that has always defined the property.
“Every detail is being elevated, from design and furnishings to in-room technology and amenities, so our rooms reflect the same quality and comfort our members and traveling guests’ desire,” he continued. “…Our goal is to honor the tradition and character that makes this place special while delivering modern comforts.”

Southern California-based architecture firm Carrier Johnson is overseeing the work, in collaboration with Oltra Design Studio. Together, O’Donohue said the team has “helped shape a design direction inspired by the easy elegance of the La Jolla coastline, creating spaces that feel refreshed while still remaining true to the Beach [& Tennis] Club culture and aesthetic.”
That includes the use of natural materials and tones, nods to Spanish architecture, deep beds with oak nightstands, bathrooms that feature a walk-in shower finished with tile, light oak cabinetry and quartz countertops in the kitchen, and more.
“It’s not about reinventing the property but evolving it in a way that feels true to who we are,” O’Donohue said.

Phase one of the renovation, completed in spring 2025, enhanced key areas of the Beach & Tennis Club including the pool and deck, club restaurant, and back-of-house facilities and introduced a new club market.
The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated company helmed by the Kellogg family. The resort encompasses three properties, including the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, the 128-room La Jolla Shores Hotel and the Marine Room restaurant.
