Wimbledon finalist Karolina Muchova has announced she will miss next month’s Canadian Open in Toronto after undergoing minor surgery, adding another injury setback to a career that has been repeatedly disrupted by fitness problems.
The 29-year-old Czech revealed the news on Saturday through a post on social media, confirming that the procedure was successful and that she has already begun her rehabilitation.
“I had to undergo a small surgery that will keep me off the court for a few weeks. Everything went well, and I’m already working on my recovery,” Muchova posted on social media.
“Sad to be missing Toronto this year. I was really looking forward to making my debut there, but recovery comes first.”
Muchova had been rumored to make her first Canadian Open appearance after winning the Wimbledon title this month.
But her Toronto dreams are on hold while she works on regaining full fitness. The world number six was defeated 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 by her Czech opponent Linda Noskova in the Wimbledon final earlier this month.
It was the second Grand Slam title loss Muchova has suffered, having lost her 2023 French Open final to Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
Muchova has been unable to break through due to injuries that have plagued her career, such as repeated wrist issues that have forced her off the court for long periods of time.
The Czech did not specify what her latest injury was or when she would be able to return to competition. But she is thought to be fit for the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, starting next month.
