Every year on both the ATP and WTA Tours, a few players rise to the occasion and show the tennis world what they are truly capable of. The story becomes even more special when those players are youngsters who seize their moment and change the course of their careers.
If Alexandra Eala has emerged as one of the breakthrough stars on the WTA Tour, Rafael Jodar has done the same on the ATP Tour. From playing collegiate tennis at the University of Virginia to climbing to No. 15 in the ATP rankings, Jodar’s rise has been nothing short of extraordinary.
The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive clay-court season, reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros after earlier making the last eight in Madrid and Rome, as well as the semifinals at the Barcelona Open. With Carlos Alcaraz sidelined, Jodar gave Spanish tennis fans another name to rally behind and has established himself as Spain’s second-highest-ranked player.
Although his Wimbledon campaign ended in the third round, falling short of the standards he had set during the clay season, Jodar responded brilliantly at the start of the North American hard-court swing by reaching the final of the Washington Open.
Standing between him and the title is Taylor Fritz. On his way to the championship match, Jodar produced victories over Kei Nishikori, Lorenzo Musetti, and Arthur Fils. For any young player looking to consistently compete at the highest level, having a strong support system is essential, and Jodar certainly has one.
Meet Rafael Jodar’s Parents and Coaching Team
Jodar’s father, Rafael Jodar Sr., has been the driving force behind his tennis journey ever since his son first picked up a racket. A former school teacher, women’s basketball coach, physical education instructor, and physiotherapist, Jodar Sr. taught himself the game from scratch before eventually becoming his son’s coach and manager.
His mother has largely stayed away from the spotlight. While her name has never been officially confirmed, several Spanish media reports have identified her as Mrs. Camacho. Both parents have played a significant role in supporting Jodar’s development from a young age.

Like many aspiring Spanish players, Jodar grew up idolizing Rafael Nadal, whose influence inspired him to pursue a professional tennis career.
Alongside his father, Jodar is also guided by his University of Virginia coach, Brian Rasmussen, who serves as his assistant coach. Together, they form the core of Jodar’s support team, although the Spaniard could look to expand his coaching setup once the 2026 season comes to an end.
Is Rafael Jodar Dating Anyone?
Away from the court, Jodar has kept his personal life almost entirely private. The 19-year-old is believed to be single and has so far only been seen traveling with members of his team on tour.
Given his preference for keeping his private life out of the spotlight, it is unlikely that Jodar will publicly discuss his relationship status anytime soon, even if that changes in the future.
With confidence soaring and expectations continuing to grow, Rafael Jodar enters the North American hard-court swing as one of the ATP Tour’s brightest young stars. Having already won the US Open boys’ singles title, the Spaniard will now be hoping to announce himself on the biggest stage at Flushing Meadows.
