After another match it’s safe to say that the Keokuk Lady Chiefs and head coach Dan Logan are having fun. They got to celebrate at the end of the night with a 9-0 win at the Keokuk Tennis Courts against the Burlington Notre Dame Lady Nikes.
In the No. 1 singles match, senior Nevaeh Logan was able to use her experience to take down Burlington Notre Dame’s Paige Kramer in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Berkley Boyd was able to win her match in the No. 2 singles position beating Liliana Anderson 6-0, 6-1. The closest match of the night came in the No. 3 singles between KHS’ Baylee Picton and Burlington Notre Dame’s Jessee Pearson. Picton was able to come out on top for the Lady Chiefs with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Lizzy Mason beat Meredith Willson in No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0. London Mueller and Remi Snively won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles over Faith Gibb and Alen Franklin 6-0, 6-0 respectively. What does Dan Logan contribute the early success to? Practice.
“A lot of the players I have this year have retained what they learned last year,” he said. “We have a good group of people and they’re having fun at practices. It’s been a lot of fun for me as a coach too. I want to continue to see the excitement and enthusiasm of the players, the improvement, and the team work they’ve shown. Everybody that plays has had a great time.”
In doubles, the Lady Chiefs continued to keep their foot on the gas. Logan and Boyd were the No. 1 doubles combination against Kramer and Pearson winning 8-0. KHS used Picton and Mason in the No. 2 doubles against Anderson and Willson also winning 8-0. Mueller and Alex Sanchez ended the night for the Lady Chiefs in No. 3 Doubles picking up an 8-4 victory.
KHS now 2-1 on the season, hosts Fort Madison at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
