Utica Eisenhower had a solid boys tennis season last fall.

The Eagles were third in a competitive Macomb Area Conference Red Division and fifth at a deep regional in which the Eagles hosted last October.

This year, Eisenhower would love nothing more than to take a leap forward.

The Eagles showcased some depth Thursday at the Eisenhower Invitational, topping the eight-school field with 23 points and winning seven of the eight flights on the day. Eisenhower was in midseason form even though the season is less than two weeks old.

Clinton Township Chippewa Valley was second with 16 points, while Utica Ford (14), Wyandotte (11), Fraser (11), Almont (8), Macomb Dakota (8) and Warren Mott (2) rounded out the field.

Dakota’s Zac Clouse defeated Wyandotte’s Carson Haley in straight set (6-0, 6-0) to claim the No. 1 singles title. That was the only flight that Eisenhower didn’t win on the day but had a competitor finish third.

Eisenhower came back and had three champions in the singles flight and swept all four doubles flights to win the tournament by seven points over runner-up Chippewa Valley, which had four runner-up finishes on the day.

Eisenhower’s Eli Layson defeated Chippewa Valley’s Zach Ulmer in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) to earn the No. 2 singles crown.

The Eagles saw Angelo Restauri win the No. 3 singles flight as he swept Utica Ford’s Nolan Cybulski (6-0, 6-1) in the finals, while Eisenhower teammate Achilles Coutinho swept Chippewa Valley’s Nick Ivanov (6-1, 6-2) in the No. 4 singles flight finals.

The doubles flights were all claimed by host Eisenhower.

Samuel Palushaj and Michael Crandall teamed up at No. 1 doubles to go 3-0 on the day, including a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Utica Ford’s Austin Ruzzin and Riley Haysmer.

At No 2 doubles, Noor Al-Bermani and Gio Kaktoma posted a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Chippewa Valley’s Ryder Degraw and Evan Kler in the finale.

Eisenhower’s Jayden Yoo and Luka Bozhinovski posted a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Chippewa Valley’s Nathan Boehlig and Adam Chrominski in the No. 3 doubles finals, while the Eagles’ siblings duo of Colton Colburn and Mason Colburn took down Almont’s Trevor Clark and Chanhee Lee by a 6-1, 6-1 count in the No. 4 doubles finals.
