Tuesday was a star-studded day at the US Open. Before Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro even set foot on the court, matches between two-time defending champion and No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka and No. 6 Linda Nosková took place, along with an All-American quarterfinal match between No. 11 Frances Tiafoe and unseeded Alex Michelsen.

Pegula has glided into her fourth US Open quarterfinal in the last five years, having lost just one set. In the round of 16, she beat No. 16 Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-4. A finalist in 2024, the 32-year-old American has relied heavily on her serve and ground game. Her game suits the hardcourt, with seven of her 11 career titles coming on cement, and her 27-9 career mark in Flushing is her best at any of the Majors.

Navarro, a quarterfinalist at the US Open for the second time in three years, the 25-year-old reached the semifinals in 2024. Navarro made it to the quarterfinals after beating Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). She’s lost just two sets in the tournament, both of which came in the first two rounds. Her most impressive win so far was a 6-3, 7-5 win over No. 7 seed Karolina Muchova in the third round.

Pegula has won all four matches against Navarro, with the most recent coming last month in the third round of the Cincinnati Open.
