A meditative vision of the desert, where nature’s tranquillity meets a modern, resilient, self-aware femininity: this was the concept around which Sara Cavazza Facchinibuilt Genny’s SS 2027 collection, titled “La Regina del Deserto” and unveiled during Milan Fashion Week.

“It all started with an imaginary ‘journey’ one evening when, after coming home tired from work, I immersed myself in a book about Africa,” the creative director tells FashionNetwork.com.
“As I turned the pages, I came across a photograph of a zebra drinking, so tranquil, and I thought: I want to create a collection that channels these feelings of peace, the desire to live in a more natural dimension, in a meditative, relaxed mood.”
This inspiration materialised in diaphanous silhouettes that seemed to “float” on the body with effortless ease.
“The jackets have the weight and softness of a shirt, while shirts open onto plunging necklines that reveal lace bras. The evening dresses are ultra-light, almost as if wind-swept sand had traced the dress directly onto the skin,” the designer continued.
“The embroidery is delicate, worked in cotton and silk. It tells the story of a woman who outwardly leads a chaotic daily life, yet maintains an inner state of calm and peace.”

Alongside this contemplative streak, the collection explored a playful, dynamic dimension through sports-inspired touches drawn from the world of tennis, underscored by the special appearance of Laila Hasanovic (model and partner of tennis player Jannik Sinner), making her fashion week catwalk debut.
“In this ideal world, I wanted to have fun too, and imagined tennis as the perfect sport to play in a light-hearted, carefree way,” revealed Cavazza Facchini. “Hence the plissé, the short bubble skirts and the balloon dresses. Laila Hasanovic is a friend: we met in Monte Carlo, then she was with us in Cannes, and today she is here in Milan.”
Genny’s daywear offering featured asymmetric skirts, hippy-tinged pearl belts, chain prints with zebra and agave motifs, and, for the first time on the catwalk, denim.
“We worked with pale blue denim paired with chiffon, then distressed it to give it a slightly hippy feel,” the designer concluded.

La Regina del Deserto developed a constant dialogue between material, colour and fluid layering: Tuareg-inspired cobalt blue softens into delicate shades of pale blue, alongside the natural tones of sand, off-white and the warm glow of sunsets, ranging from paprika to red. The mineral realm, meanwhile, took its cue from Suzanne Belperron’s jewellery and her hardstone pieces, informing a richly nuanced palette.
The pieces played with deconstructed volumes: the scarf becomes a structural element for tops and bias-cut dresses, while soft cowl necklines and slender cords applied to tulle redefined the silhouette, poised between the real body and optical illusion. Ethnic references emerged in the generous proportions of bloomer-style trousers, set alongside the richness of fabrics such as poplin, jersey, silk muslin and crêpe. The accessories line completed the total look with sabots, mules and slingbacks crafted from woven leather, accompanied by raffia bags decorated with the orchid print, a symbol of the label.
