Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina have ended their marriage
In tennis, love means nothing. At least, from a scoreboard perspective. But several players have defied that notion. The tennis tour is relentless, lasting 11 months as players fly from city to city, country to country, competing in different tournaments every week. So it’s no surprise that some of the players end up together. Britain’s Katie Boulter married her long-time partner, ATP No. 8 Alex de Minaur, earlier this year. Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi have been married for 25 years. Roger Federer‘s wife, Mirka, was also a tennis player.
Not all tennis ‘power couples’ have worked out. Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas had a public relationship – and a public break-up. And earlier this week, Elina Svitolina confirmed the end of her marriage to Gael Monfils. The Ukrainian confirmed that their personal situation led to Monfils’ sudden retirement earlier this month, meaning he will not play his final two tournaments in Lyon and Paris. Here, Express Sport takes a look at 11 current and former tennis couples who found love off the court…

The Brit-Aussie couple officially tied the knot this summer, six years after going public with their relationship. They wed in an intimate ceremony in Boulter’s home of Leicestershire before throwing a bigger bash in Italy. Boulter and De Minaur’s off-court romance has often helped them on the court, too, and they’ve won titles at the same time more than once.
Back in 2024, De Minaur won the ATP 500 event in Acapulco, and then rushed to San Diego to watch the Brit lift some silverware too. A few months later, she claimed the title in Nottingham while the Aussie was crowned the ‘s-Hertogenbosch champion. The couple also continue to support each other from one another’s player boxes when they can. Boulter is currently competing in Japan, while De Minaur is set to play in Vienna next week.

The two tennis icons have now been married for 25 years and have two children together. Their son, Jaden, plays baseball, and Graf and Agassi have often been seen cheering him on. He also represented his mother’s home nation, Germany, in the World Baseball Classic qualifiers.
Eight-time Major winner Agassi opened up on his relationship with Graf in his autobiography, Open, and even admitted he had a crush on her back in 1992, years before they finally got together. The pair married in a very small ceremony in their Las Vegas home in 2001. Graf was recently seen cheering on Agassi’s Team World at the Laver Cup in London with their daughter, Jaz.

Keys and Fratangelo have been together since 2017 and got married at the end of 2024. A former top-100 player on the ATP Tour, Fratangelo has been inactive for the last three years, but started coaching Keys in 2023 and was in her corner when she won a maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open 2025.
Explaining how he started coaching his own wife, Fratangelo told the ATP: “I think it kind of started when we kind of had a little more tennis dialogue in our relationship, sort of when I was finishing my own career. She was just bouncing ideas off of me and stuff. It was the first time I was giving input back. Then it just came to a point where we started and decided that I was going to be with her full-time.”
Alex Bolt and Katie Swan (Image: Instagram @katieswan99)
Boulter and De Minaur aren’t the only British Katie and Aussie Alex to form a relationship on the tennis tour. Swan, a former world No. 118, has been dating Bolt for a couple of years. When she picked up a career-threatening back injury, the Bristol-born star even branded herself a “WAG” and travelled with Bolt on the lower-level Challenger and ITF circuits.
Swan has since enjoyed a revival, reaching the second round at Wimbledon this summer. She and Bolt also won titles at the same tournament at the end of 2025. The 27-year-old claimed her 16th ITF title in Brisbane, while Bolt was crowned the champion of the ATP Challenger event staged in the same venue.

Tiafoe and Broomfield have been together for more than a decade. Canadian star Broomfield previously competed on the doubles circuit and played college tennis, but no longer plays professionally. She also served as a body double for some tennis scenes in King Richard, the Oscar-winning movie about Serena and Venus Williams’ father and coach.
The 29-year-old is often seen cheering the world No. 9 at matches, and she has set up her own organisation, Ayan’s Aces, aimed at increasing diversity, inclusion and access at tennis tournaments.

Former US Open champion Pennetta started dating fellow Italian tennis star Fognini in 2014. They got married in 2016 and now have three children together. Pennetta retired in 2015, just months after winning the US Open, while Fognini ended his career after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets in the first round of Wimbledon last summer.

The Canadian and Swedish stars started dating in 2019 and tied the knot in a ceremony in Greece last year. Shapovalov has been ranked as high as No. 10 in the world and has four titles to his name. Bjorklund mostly competed on the Challenger and ITF Tours before retiring at the end of last year. She has since started working with her husband and has been part of his coaching team.

Aussie tennis stars Daria and Luke Saville have been married since 2021, and Daria, whose maiden name is Gavrilova, took her husband’s surname professionally. The couple welcomed their first child earlier this year, and Saville has been documenting her journey of potentially returning to professional tennis on social media.
Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils (Image: Getty)
Monfils and Svitolina started dating in 2019, enjoying their first date shortly after Svitolina won the 2018 WTA Finals. They married in 2021 and welcomed their first child, a daughter named Skai, in 2022. The couple announced their split earlier this week in a joint Instagram statement, which was written from Svitolina’s perspective.
Citing the Ukraine war as one of the factors in their split, she said: “With time, I came to understand that I need to find my way back to myself and that I cannot do that within our marriage.” Monfils also abruptly ended his tennis career, notifying the International Tennis Integrity Agency of his retirement on October 5, before he was due to play farewell events at the Lyon Open and Paris Masters. Svitolina confirmed this was due to their personal situation.

Dubbed ‘Tsitsidosa’, the pair dated for around a year from May 2023, first going public on Spotify by making a joint playlist and changing their display photos to joint selfies. They had an on-off relationship, and former world No. 2 Badosa has since branded their partnership “toxic”.
Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya (Image: Getty)
The world No. 1 dated the Russian tennis star for roughly a year from the spring of 2024. They were spotted in each other’s boxes during matches, and Sinner confirmed their relationship during the Italian portion of his press conference at the French Open that year.
“I don’t like to talk much about my private life. Yes, I’m with Anna, but we keep everything very confidential. I won’t say more,” he said.
Sinner also won a title in Halle in June 2024, the same day Kalinskaya lost a final in Berlin. During his victory speech, he said: “My girlfriend Anna played in Berlin today. She lost [despite having] six match points. So I’m very sorry for her. She also had an amazing week.”
