The first round of the 2026 French Open<\/a> was contested Tuesday at Court Suzanne-Lenglen in Paris, France.<\/p>\n

Former Vol Adam Walton<\/a> defeated No. 6 seed and former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, in five sets. He advances to the second round against Zachary Svajda on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The winner between Walton and Svajda will face the winner between Francisco Cerundolo and Hugo Gaston in the third round.<\/p>\n

Against Medvedev on Tuesday, Walton totaled three aces, one double fault, 67 first serve percentage, 6-of-15 break points, 94 service points won and 14 service games won.<\/p>\n

Walton also defeated Medvedev in the second round of the 2025 Cincinnati Open.<\/p>\n

He played for the Vols<\/a> from 2017-22 under head coach Chris Woodruff, compiling a 124-25 singles and 101-47 doubles record. Walton was an All-SEC player and earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles competition.<\/p>\n

In 2022, he combined with\u00a0Pat Harper<\/a>\u00a0to win a doubles national championship.<\/p>\n
