Emma Raducanu<\/a> is back on home soil this week, as she begins her grass campaign at London\u2019s Queen\u2019s Club, looking to find some form ahead of Wimbledon. The British No. 1 reached the quarter-finals of Queen\u2019s last year, but comes in undercooked this season after post-viral illness sidelined her for more than two months.<\/p>\n Raducanu returned to the clay courts in Strasbourg a couple of weeks ago, losing in the first round. She then lost in the second round of the French Open, and is now back on a more comfortable surface with Andrew Richardson<\/a> \u2013 the coach who guided her to her 2021 US Open title \u2013 in tow.<\/p>\n As the 23-year-old searches for momentum in the lead-up to Wimbledon<\/a>, Andrew Castle believes the spotlight on Raducanu could be even bigger during the grass season, with another big name missing.<\/p>\n Two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> has already ruled himself out of action for the coming weeks<\/a> as he continues to recover from a wrist injury, which also saw him miss Roland Garros. And Castle says it leaves Raducanu as one of the few stars in the mix.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope she wins some matches because we don’t have Carlos Alcaraz now, so the spotlight is on a handful of players, and Emma’s one of them. So, I hope she handles it well,\u201d the Wimbledon commentator exclusively told Express Sport, speaking on behalf of Betway<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope she’s able to enjoy it. Why not? You’re only young once. Just get after it and enjoy it. You know, it’d be great to see a smile on her face because I think she plays better when she is happy. The British coach was in her corner when she became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam title at the 2021 US Open, and has returned to her camp for the rest of the season.<\/a><\/p>\n The former world No. 10 faced criticism when she split from Richardson just a couple of weeks after her triumph in New York, and has had several coaches since. But she\u2019s happy to have some consistency again \u2013 and Castle agrees that it will be good for her.<\/p>\n Reflecting on Raducanu\u2019s coaching decisions since that fateful night in Flushing Meadows, he explained: \u201cWhen you win something as big as she won and you become as big a star as she is that quickly, that is unreal. It is crazy to be as famous and as celebrated as she is.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, in a way, most people have a career which is some sort of angled-up trajectory, and her career started at the top and angled down and then came back up again because she’s still ranked well. She’s one hell of a player. Make no mistake about it. I’ve had a dose of being well known, but she’s properly famous, and she got it when she was 18 years old. I’ve got no axe to grind whatsoever, but I’m sure if she did things again, and we can all say this, she would do things slightly differently because you need continuity.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can’t just change this or just change that and have it put in within a month or six weeks or three months. It’s a continuum and just changing a grip a little bit, let alone changing a strategy or a way of playing, takes ages.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery time you look up, there seems to be somebody else working with her. So anyway, I’m very glad she’s back with Andrew.
