The queen of the court is making her return.<\/p>\n
Tennis icon Serena Williams<\/a> is set to compete in singles at Wimbledon for the first time since 2022 after receiving the tournament’s final wild-card entry.<\/p>\n She will be one of eight players competing in the singles draw through a wild-card invitation.<\/p>\n Williams, 44, will also reunite with her sister, Venus Williams, in doubles competition, with the legendary duo also earning a wild-card entry.<\/p>\n The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion last competed in a major singles tournament at the 2022 U.S. Open before stepping away from professional tennis to focus on growing her family.<\/p>\n During an appearance at the WTA 500 event, Williams says it was her daughters who inspired her to come back.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t need to win. I\u2019ve won more than most people have in their whole lives. And it\u2019s important that I keep reminding myself of that because I don\u2019t have anything to prove,\u201d Williams said as reported by Yahoo Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t have anything to lose. And everything here is just to gain. It\u2019s really about my kids getting to see me play. I mean, Olympia is a little bit older. Adira is very young. But it\u2019s also having an opportunity to still be able to possibly do that one last time is kind of cool and exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n The 2026 Wimbledon Championships begin on June 29.<\/p>\n
