Kate Middleton, the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, is a regular at Wimbledon every summer<\/a>. For the past few years, however, she has only attended the finals\u2014making her appearance today, on day four of the grass court Grand Slam, a surprise for fans.<\/p>\n

As she arrived, the Princess of Wales stopped by the Queue<\/a>, meeting visitors who arrived early hoping to get a ticket. For the occasion, she wore a linen blue suit from Gabriela Hearst and accessorized with the \u201cStella\u201d lapis and moonstone earrings from Carousel Jewels.<\/p>\n

Instead of heading to Centre Court and sitting in the Royal Box, Kate\u2019s first stop after the Queue was on the side courts\u2014Court 18\u2014to watch a match between Britain\u2019s Arthur Fery and Finland\u2019s Otto Virtanen. She put on a pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses to shade her eyes as she took in the tennis.<\/p>\n

After, Kate met with children from Shine Camera Club, \u201ca creative photography programme based within the charity SHINE Merton which supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop confidence, creativity and self-expression through photography,\u201d per Kensington Palace.<\/p>\n

The Princess of Wales then went to watch a match on No. 1 court\u2014watching Britain\u2019s Katie Swan against Madison Keys of the U.S.\u2014and sat with Scottish tennis great Andy Murray<\/a> and former British player Anne Keothavong.<\/p>\n

Kate is not the first member of the British royal family to attend Wimbledon this year: the Duke of Kent was there on the first day of the tournament<\/a>, and Lady Rose Gilman, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, attended on the second day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWimbledon… was very much part of my growing up,\u201d Kate said in a 2017 BBC documentary about the tournament. \u201cIt\u2019s such a quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters; it inspired me when I was younger to get involved in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n
