Aussie tennis<\/a> fans are feeling for Ajla Tomljanovic after the star withdrew from the US Open singles main draw. Tomljanovic hasn’t featured on the women’s tour since her exit at Wimbledon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The former World No.33 went out in the first round at Wimbledon after a strong build-up tournament at the Eastbourne Open. The Aussie has often played well at Flushing Meadows having famously defeated Serena Williams in what was at the time her farewell grand slam tournament.<\/p>\n

Tomljanovic has reached the quarter-finals in New York, but won’t feature in the singles draw in 2026 having not returned to the court since her exit at Wimbledon. The Aussie had reached the second round of the Australian Open earlier this year, but has since struggled for consistency.<\/p>\n

She has dropped to World No.92 this season. Ella Seidel can now directly enter the main draw thanks to Tomljanovic’s withdrawal. The absence of Tomljanovic is a blow with the Aussie a popular player among fans.<\/p>\n

While Tomljanovic isn’t going to feature in the women’s singles draw at the US Open, another Aussie will be hoping to make an appearance as a qualifier. And he is flying up the ranks.<\/p>\n

Cruz Hewitt wins debut ATP Tour match<\/p>\n

Cruz Hewitt has won<\/a> his debut on the men’s tour after knocking out Marcos Giron in straight sets in Washington DC. After reaching the boys’ Wimbledon final, Hewitt then went through qualification to advance to the main draw in the Mubadala Open.<\/p>\n

And he was able to achieve a straight sets win over Giron. Hewitt was dominant against Giron and didn’t face a break point for the entire match. His superior serve and groundstrokes saw him dominate from the baseline.<\/p>\n

The victory means Hewitt rockets into the World Top 400 and becomes the second-highest ranked player under the age of 18. Hewitt also has the opportunity to face Alex de Minaur in the second round if the top ranked Aussie wins his first round match. Hewitt will be hoping another few strong tournaments could see him rise further up the ranks and gain a wildcard into qualification for the US Open.<\/p>\n
