{"id":52322,"date":"2026-08-17T15:41:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/tennis\/52322\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T15:41:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:41:10","slug":"emma-raducanu-tipped-to-abruptly-retire-and-she-has-already-hinted-at-future-career-after-tennis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/tennis\/52322\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu tipped to abruptly retire and she has already hinted at future career after tennis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former British tennis player and broadcaster Andrew Castle would not be shocked if Emma Raducanu retired from tennis &#8216;out of the blue&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Since climbing to the top of the sport with her historic <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/topic\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open <\/a>victory in 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/who\/emma-raducanu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Raducanu<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/tennis\/1471867\/emma-raducanu-admits-never-won-us-open-tennis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">struggled for consistency<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Emma Raducanu during practice at Wimbledon\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Getty\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/tennis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NINTCHDBPICT001091702062.jpg\" data-caption=\"Raducanu is only 23 but may already be thinking about what comes after tennis\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/tennis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NINTCHDBPICT001091702062.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu is only 23 but may already be thinking about what comes after tennisCredit: Getty<\/p>\n<p>Excluding her win in Flushing Meadows, Raducanu has failed to progress beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p>And in the Grand Slams following the 2021 US Open, Raducanu has made it past the second round just four times from 14 attempts.<\/p>\n<p>Adding to Raducanu&#8217;s on-court struggles is a <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/tennis\/4260419\/emma-raducanu-reunites-us-open-winning-coach-andrew-richardson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">constant chopping and changes of coaches<\/a> as well as injury woes.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/tennis\/4255360\/emma-raducanu-return-date-strasbourg-illness\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">physical struggles<\/a> took centre stage as recently as June, with the 23-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/tennis\/4373072\/emma-raducanu-withdraws-wimbledon-out-injury\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">forced to withdraw from Wimbledon<\/a> the day before the tournament began due to a stress fracture in her shin.<\/p>\n<p>Read more tennis newsAndrew Castle&#8217;s verdict on Emma Raducanu&#8217;s future in tennis<\/p>\n<p>Given the injuries Raducanu has already had to come back from at such a young age coupled with the harshness of the spotlight the spotlight, veteran <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/tennis\/4337622\/andrew-castle-to-leave-bbc-wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">former BBC presenter<\/a> Castle feels the Bromley native could very easily pack it all in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well, put it this way,&#8221; Castle said. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve got no access to that camp whatsoever, but it wouldn&#8217;t surprise me if one day, out of the blue, she just said, you know, &#8216;I&#8217;ve had enough of all this.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I mean, don&#8217;t we all say that? She doesn&#8217;t have an obligation to anybody but herself and her family. That&#8217;s it. There is nothing else.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All the sponsors and everybody else, they&#8217;re not the ones whose career this is.
