BROCKWAY \u2014 Even on a beautiful day across most of the area, the girls tennis teams from Brockway and Elk County Catholic did have to dodge a few raindrops early in their match at Brockway on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The showers were far from persistent, though, and the two teams were able to complete their match with no issues, with the visiting Lady Crusaders picking up a 5-0 sweep for their first official win of the season after being rained out against DuBois in Monday evening\u2019s opening match.<\/p>\n
At No. 1 singles, the match was filled with long rallies from both sides, but it was ECC\u2019s Arianna Gurosik emerging victorious over Brockway\u2019s Maria Buttery by a 6-2, 6-0 score.<\/p>\n
In the second singles pairing, ECC\u2019s Jolene Rippey managed to win the first set over Brockway\u2019s Jorden Sanchez 6-1, then followed up with a 6-2 win in the second set to secure her team point.<\/p>\n
Lana Elmquist closed out the singles sweep for the Lady Crusaders by besting Brockway\u2019s Rosalina Bickar 6-2 in the first set, then 6-1 in the second.<\/p>\n
And in the only contested doubles match, ECC\u2019s top pairing of Ava Corl and Bella Dixon managed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Brockway\u2019s duo of Lizzie Heverely and Sadie Cherubini.<\/p>\n
The fifth team point also went to the Lady Crusaders, as the Lady Rovers did not have enough players on-hand to field a second doubles team.<\/p>\n
