SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Rock Springs Tigers and Green River Wolves tennis squads battled with the Jackson Broncs on Saturday as the girls teams came away with victories.<\/p>\n
The Green River girls took down their opponents in four of the five matches, while the Wolves boys were swept 5-0. Rock Springs saw a 3-2 win on the girls side, but the boys were also swept 5-0.<\/p>\n
Rylin Arnell downed Margaret Tauren in the No. 1 singles match in two one-sided sets, 6-2 and 6-1. Green River\u2019s only loss in the girls match came in the No. 2 singles, as Sydney Lopez fell to Annabele Millham in two sets. Brynley Beutel and Meghan Thomas returned the Wolves to winning ways when they defeated Mizelle and Maher in a 6-1, 7-6 battle. The sweep of the doubles matches continued with Taylor Kendall and Bianca Marx topping MacGregor and Chace in 7-5 and 6-1 sets. Katelyn Tanner and Emma Johnson capped off the team victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ramsey and Levinson.<\/p>\n
The Wolves boys each went down in two-set matches. Lucas Arnold fell 6-0, 6-0 to William Freymann and Kaiden Olson dropped two 6-2 sets to Luke Gentile in the singles matches. Quentin Bundy and Jacob Britton battled against Steinberg and Beninga, but lost 6-2, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles match was Green River\u2019s best showing with Blaise Taylor and Lucas Hokanson edging Wilcox and Ankeny 6-4, 6-4, though they finished on the wrong end of the decision. Joe Lovato and Kyler Steiss wrapped up the results with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat to Day and Fine.<\/p>\n
Rock Springs took wins in all three girls doubles matches to secure the victory. Tahlia Knudsen and Emery Punches-Mickelson started the streak by topping Mizelle and Maher in 6-1, 4-6 and 6-4 sets. Sophie Pugmire and Harris kept it going with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Moser and MacGregor. In a fight to clinch the team win, Wigg and Wren prevailed over Chace and Levenson by 6-4, 1-6 and 6-4 scores. Addie Aanerud and Olivia Davies dropped their singles matches in two sets to Tauren and Millham, respectively.<\/p>\n
On the boys side, everyone went down in two sets except for Gentry Swafford and Dax Ogden in their No. 1 singles match. They won their first set against Ankeny and Beninga 6-3, then fell in the next two 6-4 and 10-8. Matthew Wren and Clint Copsey lost in their singles matches as Thompson and George and Thompson and Wheatley faced defeat in their doubles.<\/p>\n
The Tigers and the Wolves will square off in Green River on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
