A set of “failing” West London tennis courts situated within a prominent park are set for a full refurbishment.<\/p>\n
Two of the tennis courts<\/a> in Holland Park<\/a> are in need of resurfacing and other works in order to make sure that future games can go ahead. Located in the south-western part of the Grade II listed park, the two courts are also set to get new equipment and a fresh paint job.<\/p>\n Kensington and Chelsea Council<\/a>, which is also carrying out the work as the owner of the site, will hear the application at an upcoming Planning Sub-Committee on Tuesday (September 8).<\/p>\n The plans come after a council report identified that courts at Holland Park and Kensington Memorial Gardens needed to be refurbished.<\/p>\n The two courts are set to get new equipment and a fresh paint job(Image: RBKC)<\/p>\n Published in December 2025, the report says that the courts needed to renewed or future games would need to be cancelled.<\/p>\n “The tennis court surfacing is failing, with almost complete loss of colour coating and signs of fretting on the macadam surface, as well as some courts requiring repairs due to damage from tree roots. Unless the courts are renewed future games will be cancelled,” reads the report.<\/p>\n A total sum of \u00a3170,000 was approved by the Executive Director of Environment and Resident Services, to fix up courts at both Holland Park and Kensington Memorial Gardens.<\/p>\n New goals, nets and posts will be installed, court line markings will be renewed and LED floodlights will be installed on the two courts at Holland Park if the plans are approved. The existing brick wall surrounding the courts will also be repaired.<\/p>\n No objections to the plans have been received by the council.<\/p>\n Works to refurbish the rest of the courts across Holland Park and Kensington Memorial Gardens will then be spaced out throughout this year to minimise disruption to users.<\/p>\n Got a story?
