EARLIER THIS WEEK, Factor75<\/a> invited me to watch Ben Shelton take on Tallon Griekspoor in the first round of the US Open. Shelton had a rough start, dropping the first set before powering through a surprisingly long four-set win. But while his huge serves and signature grunts were hard to miss, I was more focused on his bold brown On<\/a> kit. It was a cool switch-up from the country club pastels and clean monochrome fits that dominate men\u2019s tennis. Shelton\u2019s mulberry-black ombr\u00e9 set had the same swagger the 23-year-old player brings to the court.<\/p>\n While Shelton has been an On ambassador since 2023, the new Lights Out collection is the first capsule he\u2019s helped design for the Swiss brand. It\u2019s a fitting next step after he worked with On and Roger Federer on the Roger Pro 3, the tennis shoe he wears in competition. The capsule\u2019s darker palette and the sweeping graphic across the tank and shorts<\/a> are meant to reflect the motion of a racket swing.<\/p>\n On is still better known for its sneakers<\/a> than its activewear<\/a>, but the brand has been making strides with clothes with a sleek Swiss sensibility that look way cooler than the staid monochrome sets you see from many of its competitors. Tapping an all-American player like Shelton to push that look forward is a cool swerve.<\/p>\n The off-court pieces are just as cool. There\u2019s a mulberry varsity bomber with black knit sleeves and a shiny body. The collection also includes a terry quarter-zip and matching pants that carry the mulberry color through the rest of the lineup. They\u2019d look just as good stunting at Arthur Ashe as they would on your weekend farmers market run.<\/p>\n
