Serena Williams has returned to tennis<\/p>\n
The 44-year-old sporting icon made a shock return to the court at Wimbledon earlier this summer and has stressed that she doesn’t have an “agenda” regarding her comeback.<\/p>\n
Serena told People: “I really don’t have an agenda right now. I’m taking it one match at a time and seeing where my body can take me.<\/p>\n
“It’s been exciting to see what I’m capable of and to feel myself getting stronger. Right now, I’m just enjoying being back out there and seeing where it goes.”<\/p>\n
The former world number one is teaming up with her sister Venus, 46, for the women’s doubles at the US Open and is delighted to renew the partnership with her sibling – whom she has previously won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles alongside.<\/p>\n
\nSerena said: ‘We’ve experienced so much together, on and off the court, and I think at this stage we’re able to appreciate these moments in a different way.<\/p>\n
\n“We’re competitive, of course, but we’re also having a lot of fun and really enjoying getting to do this together again.”<\/p>\n
\nSerena recently played with Carlos Alcaraz, 23, during the mixed doubles at Flushing Meadows and waxed lyrical about the Spanish ace’s ability and attitude.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “Carlos is obviously so talented, but what really stood out to me is how much joy he brings to competing.<\/p>\n
\n“We couldn’t stop smiling out there. He can be incredibly intense and focused when the point starts, and then immediately have fun again. I think that ability to stay loose while still being so competitive is really special, and probably a big part of what makes him so good.”<\/p>\n
\nSerena also explained how her perspective on tennis has changed now that she has a family to look after.<\/p>\n
\nThe 23-time Grand Slam singles champion – who has daughters Olympia, eight, and Adira, three, with her husband Alexis Ohanian – said: “I’m balancing a lot right now – training, competing, my businesses, and, most importantly, being a mom. <\/p>\n
\n“I think I appreciate it differently now. I’m having more fun and really enjoying the whole process – not just competing, but being back on tour with my team and having my family there with me.<\/p>\n
\n“I’m at a different place in my life now, and I think that’s allowed me to enjoy it in a completely different way.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"4 September 2026 Serena Williams is taking her tennis return “one match at a time”.
