{"id":68685,"date":"2026-09-08T13:17:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T13:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/tennis\/68685\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T13:17:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T13:17:14","slug":"entrepreneur-joseph-daoud-takes-campaign-against-labors-cgt-changes-directly-to-albanese-during-16500-charity-tennis-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/tennis\/68685\/","title":{"rendered":"Entrepreneur Joseph Daoud takes campaign against Labor\u2019s CGT changes directly to Albanese during $16,500 charity tennis match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sydney entrepreneur Joseph Daoud used his $16,500 charity tennis match with Anthony Albanese to press the Prime Minister over Labor\u2019s changes to capital gains tax.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Daoud, the founder of mortgage broker\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0Simple Finance, paid $16,500 at the Midwinter Ball auction in August for the chance to play the Prime Minister at The Lodge\u00a0on Tuesday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The match was billed as a charity event. But for Mr Daoud, it also became an opportunity to take his campaign directly to Mr Albanese.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He leads the \u201cStop the Ambition Tax\u201d campaign, which argues Labor\u2019s CGT changes will hit small business owners, young investors and people building side businesses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to News24 host Paul Murray after Tuesday\u2019s match, Mr Daoud said he had used the event to bring the concerns of ordinary Australians directly to the Prime Minister.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was about taking the concerns of everyday Australians to the Prime Minister,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Daoud said he told Mr Albanese that people campaigning against the reforms had been trying to make their concerns heard.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the Prime Minister responded by pointing to the timing of the legislation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI turned around and I said to him,\u00a0\u2018we were trying to get the opinions of everyday Australians heard\u2019,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut when he said to me,\u00a0\u2018oh, the law doesn&#8217;t really come into effect until July 1, 2027\u2019,\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0when I was like,\u00a0\u2018okay, so our concerns still\u00a0aren&#8217;t being heard\u2019.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Daoud said the response had not ended his campaign.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTruthfully speaking,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0not being listened to.\u00a0So,\u00a0guess what?\u00a0We&#8217;re\u00a0going to keep going and\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0going to\u00a0keep being loud about this because we\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0think\u00a0these tax\u00a0changes were very fair to the everyday Australians,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The entrepreneur had spent weeks preparing for the match, joking before the event that his\u00a0previous\u00a0tennis experience had\u00a0largely been\u00a0limited to Wii Sports.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister had the home-court advantage at The Lodge.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Daoud\u00a0 suggested he was more interested in what happened around the match than the final score, which Mr Albanese allegedly won 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, according to the Australian.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He accused Mr Albanese of awarding himself a point after a double fault and questioned a disputed call during the game.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMate,\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0not making any allegations.\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0just very, very confused as to how somebody could hit the net\u00a0and then I turn around to the umpire and go,\u00a0\u2018was that in or out?\u2019\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also joked about Mr Albanese taking a 15-minute break while the pair were playing, and propositioned him for the possibility of a round two.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the Prime Minister really is about helping the everyday punter and he really wants to raise more money for charity, maybe the next tennis match, he will actually allow my guests to come along and he will allow the Australian public to watch it,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asked who won, he had one response.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMate, how can you call the score for a rigged match?\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0all I want to say,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0Mr Daoud said he remained grateful for the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister and wanted the focus to remain on the people affected by the policy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very happy that we were able to have some consultation with the Prime Minister but truthfully speaking we just hope that it didn&#8217;t fall on deaf ears,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/tennis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/c2990b3089bdadf2db38058505458647.jpeg\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"\u2018I had to make sure I won it\u2019: $16,500 tennis match becomes showdown with Albanese\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The campaign against the tax changes centres on Labor\u2019s decision to scrap the existing 50 per cent CGT discount and introduce cost-base indexation alongside a 30 per cent minimum tax rate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The government has argued the reforms will create a fairer tax system and help level the playing field for workers and first home buyers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The changes also limit negative gearing to new builds, while existing arrangements are grandfathered for landlords who benefited from the system before the May 12, 2026 cut-off.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The legislation passed Parliament in June.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Daoud\u2019s campaign has included skywriting over Canberra and Brisbane on
