Kyle SchmidtCAPE CORAL, Fla. —

The Yellow Fever Creek Preserve in Cape Coral has officially opened, providing residents and visitors with new opportunities to enjoy nature after years of planning and construction.

Wil Harding, a Cape Coral resident, shared his enthusiasm for the new park. “We look forward to touring the whole facility. It looks beautiful,” Harding said.

The preserve features a variety of amenities, including nature trails, a fishing pond, a disc golf course, and over 20 camping spots.

“We want to see groups like the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, the Eagle Scouts. We want to see families because not everybody has a backyard in Cape Coral, so we want to bring people in and come spend the night with us,” said Taylor Dupuis, recreation program supervisor at Yellow Fever Creek Preserve.

The preserve is located off Del Prado Boulevard North in Cape Coral.

The $6 million project was funded by a general obligation bond approved by voters in 2018. Although the project was completed two years later than planned due to contractor issues, it is now ready for the public to enjoy.

Dupuis also highlighted the wildlife that visitors might encounter. “You may see some animals. We have bobcats, coyotes, all different kinds of native birds, migratory birds. They come and visit. We usually have an eagle that hangs out over there,” Dupuis said.

Even the Florida skunk ape made an appearance during the opening celebration.

For those planning to visit, the preserve includes non-paved trails, so wearing shoes that can handle dirt is recommended.
