Presidential Spokesman İbrahim Kalın said that some of the evidences have already been offered to authorities in the States to help prove Gülen’s part in the failed coup attempt.
“He is the key suspect in the coup case. A clear legal basis has emerged for his extradition to Turkey. Gülen says he has not been involved in the attempted coup, but he is sending some coded messages to his followers,” he said.
“Officials will make evaluations required in the process of his extradition, but I want to ask my US counterparts why the extradition of a man, who is even not a US citizen, would become a great issue for them?” Kalın said, calling for cooperation to prevent this issue from becoming a problem which will impact relations between Ankara and Washington.
Kalın said Gülen’s extradition is vital for the fate of the coup case. “This will be a crucial step. There is an illegal organization and it is led by Gülen. There are some others, who were involved in the coup attempt. Not only Gülen, but also others will be investigated in this case.”
The Spokesman said the reason which caused the intelligence units were late to warn President Recep Tayyip of the coup attempt is still under investigation. “When the investigation is over, the reason is clarified. But it is taking time to reveal all details connected to what actually happened on that night,” he added.
Kalın also said there have been 70 prosecutors who are meticulously conducting the coup case in order to determine who had responsibility and who didn’t in the July 15 coup plot. “Correspondences, records of surveillance cameras and phone conversations have been searched to determine those who were involved in the plot. Those, detained but did not have a part in the plot, have been released for the sake of the ongoing investigation. 1200 privates, accused of coup attempt, were subsequently released,” Kalın elaborated.
Kalın has confirmed a second coup attempt still appears to be in question. “The President met the chief spy Hakan Fidan yesterday and the Army chief Hulusi Akar on the previous day. This is a critical stage we are going through and a critical issue we are supposed to cope with. We do not allow any decision which may undermine the process, but the possibility of a latter coup attempt is still in question,” he explained
“There is no loss or non-recorded material in the military’s inventory. A firm control has been ensured in the entire military barracks. Considering the unfolded events in the aftermath of the 15 July coup attempt, we can expect anything from these furious murderers. An assassination attempt or a plot to use PKK or Daesh in a violent attack could be possible.”
