Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Staff of the Tashkent Metro traffic operations service are taking part in the international training seminar “Travel Information, Design and Wayfinding” focused on passenger information, design and navigation. The event, organised by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), is being held in Istanbul, Türkiye, the Tashkent Metro joint-stock company said.
The participation of Tashkent Metro staff is part of the implementation of tasks set out in Presidential Resolution No. PP-191.
On the first day of the seminar, participants attended theoretical and practical sessions on designing passenger information and navigation systems, managing passenger flows at transport hubs, and implementing modern navigation solutions and route signs.
French urban mobility design expert Yo Kaminagai presented the theoretical foundations of wayfinding systems and the principles of universal and inclusive design. Andrew Mead, former head of the architectural division at MTR Corporation, shared his experience in organising passenger information and navigation in the Hong Kong metro, with a focus on integrating physical and digital information tools.
Yug Tserovich, founder of INAT Mapping & Wayfinding, presented modern approaches to designing transport maps and route diagrams. Zakaria Mohammed spoke about navigation solutions used in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the Gulf countries.
The knowledge and experience gained at the seminar are expected to be used to improve the passenger information system in the Tashkent Metro, develop maps, pictograms and route signs based on common standards, and create a more convenient, safe and easy-to-understand environment for passengers at stations.
