T\u00fcrkiye’s installed electricity capacity reached 126,113 megawatts (MW) at the end of June, with renewable energy accounting for 62.7% of total capacity, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources said Thursday.<\/p>\n
Renewable energy sources accounted for 79,062 MW, meanwhile, the share of domestic energy resources reached 71.9%.<\/p>\n
As of the end of June, solar power capacity reached 27,210 megawatts, representing 21.6% of the country’s installed electricity capacity. Wind power capacity stood at 15,281 megawatts, accounting for 12.1%.<\/p>\n
“Combined, solar and wind power capacity reached 42,491 MW, corresponding to 33.7% of T\u00fcrkiye’s total installed electricity capacity,” according to the ministry’s statement.<\/p>\n
Among all generation sources, hydropower ranked first with an installed capacity of 32,344 MW, accounting for 25.6% of total capacity.<\/p>\n
Natural gas accounted for 25,021 MW, or 19.9% of total installed capacity, while domestic and imported coal-fired power plants stood at 11,565 MW (9.2%) and 10,466 MW (8.3%), respectively.<\/p>\n
Installed capacity from biomass reached 2,428 MW, accounting for 1.9%, while geothermal energy totaled 1,798 MW, representing 1.4% of the country’s installed capacity.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the figures, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the progress achieved, particularly in solar and wind energy, demonstrates the country’s ongoing energy transformation.<\/p>\n
“By further increasing our installed capacity, we will continue to move steadily toward our goal of a fully energy-independent T\u00fcrkiye,” he highlighted.<\/p>\n
“The momentum we have achieved, particularly in solar and wind energy, is the clearest indication of the major transformation in our country’s energy architecture,” Bayraktar said.<\/p>\n
